Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Techniques are described to enable wake-up signal (WUS) error handling at a user equipment (UE). The UE may detect an error pattern when attempting to receive a WUS from a base station based on a configuration for receiving the WUS. For example, the base station may transmit the configuration for receiving the WUS to a set of UEs including the UE. Based on detecting the error pattern, the UE may perform a mitigation operation based on determining the error pattern, such as waking up multiple cells to receive a transmission indicated by the WUS, transmitting a radio link failure indication to the base station, etc. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may transmit multiple WUSs to the UEs, such as a first WUS according to the configuration and a second WUS according to a reconfiguration.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) in a radio resource connection (RRC) inactive or idle state may initiate a random access procedure with a base station (BS) for initial access to a network, to resume an RRC connection, to re-establish an RRC connection, or to perform an early data transmission to a network. The BS may selectively include a timing advance (TA) medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) and an indication of a simplified timing advance command for the UE. The aspects herein may reduce the signaling overhead of the TA MAC CE. For example, the UE may enter an idle state or an inactive state. The UE may transmit a random access message to the BS with a request for timing advance simplification based, at least in part, on a TA value corresponding to the BS, wherein the TA value is applied to the transmission of the random access message.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to communication systems, and more particularly, to interpreting a timing advance (TA) command for members of a timing advance group (TAG), such as different uplink component carriers and/or different bandwidth parts, having different numerologies, such as different subarrier spacing (SCS). A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a base station (BS), a TA command. The UE interprets the TA command differently for different members of a same TAG, associated with different numerologies. The UE applies a timing adjustment when transmitting an uplink transmission to the BS based, at least in part, on the interpretation.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE), such as a UE with reduced capabilities, may switch from a first bandwidth part (BWP) to a second BWP to receive system information for a carrier that includes the first and second BWPs. The UE may switch to the second BWP to receive system information based on a trigger (e.g., control signaling or an expiration of a timer) and then switch back to the first BWP without additional signaling to continue operation. In some examples, the UE may receive additional signaling (e.g., data, control signaling, reference signals) in the second BWP. In some examples, a BWP switching duration may include additional time to process the system information received in the second BWP, for example if the system information includes instructions to switch to a third BWP (e.g., rather than returning to the first BWP).
