Abstract:
Systems and methods share context information on a neighbor aware network. In one aspect, a context providing device receives a plurality of responses to a discovery query from a context consuming device, and tailors services it offers to the context consuming device based on the responses. In another aspect, a context providing device indicates in its response to a discovery query which services or local context information it can provide to the context consuming device, and also a cost associated with providing the service or the local context information. In some aspects, the cost is in units of monetary currency. In other aspects, the cost is in units of user interface display made available to an entity associated with the context providing device in exchange for the services or local context information offered to the context consuming device.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for power-efficient discovery of infrastructure services on a network are disclosed. In one aspect, a method for using advertising windows to transmit service information on a network is disclosed. The method includes transmitting timing information regarding an advertising window during which information on services offered by one or more nodes on the network will be advertised. The method further includes during the advertising window, transmitting information on services offered by one or more nodes on the network.
Abstract:
Methods, devices, and computer program products for transmitting and receiving discovery and paging messages in a wireless communication device are described herein. In one aspect, a wireless apparatus operable in a wireless communication system comprises a transmitter configured to transmit a medium access control change request message to an access terminal to initiate a change in a medium access control address of the wireless apparatus and a receiver configured to receive a medium access control change response message from the access terminal. The wireless apparatus further comprises a processor configured to change the medium access control address of the wireless apparatus in response to receiving the medium access control change response, wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit a medium access control change confirm message to the access terminal.
Abstract:
A method for reduced overhead paging by an access point is described. The method includes assigning at least one paging identifier to at least one station. The method also includes partitioning a paging identifier space into paging identifier sets. The method further includes generating a paging message based on at least one of the paging identifier sets and the at least one paging identifier. The method additionally includes sending the paging message.
Abstract:
A system and method of infrastructure service discovery is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, a method includes requesting, from an access point, association without authentication and a restricted Internet protocol (IP) address, wherein the restricted IP address is restricted for use in a service discovery procedure.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for reducing overhead paging are described. One example of such a method includes generating a compressed traffic indication map (TIM) element, the compressed TIM element comprising a partial virtual bitmap field constructed from at least one encoded block field that includes an encoded block information field identifying at least one encoding mode for encoded block information, and sending the compressed TIM element to an at least one station (STA) associated with the access point that supports at least one multiple basic service set identifier (BSSID). The method may also include, in response to the at least one encoding mode comprising an offset, length, bitmap (OLB) mode, encoding the encoded block information field to include a length subfield followed by contiguous subblock subfields, each subblock subfield including a corresponding subblock of a partial virtual map.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for communicating in a wireless network are provided. In some aspects, an access point for wireless communication a receiver configured to receive information identifying a beacon timing of a second access point. The access point further includes a processor configured to adjust a beacon timing of the access point based on the received information identifying the beacon timing of the second access point and a transmitter configured to transmit a beacon according to the adjusted beacon timing of the access point.
Abstract:
A method for registering a service for proxy advertisement includes selecting, at a client device, a proxy device to proxy advertise the service of the client device to one or more other devices in a network. The method also includes sending registration data from the client device to the proxy device.
Abstract:
An access point may advertise (e.g., broadcast) identifying information (e.g., a neighbor report and access point capability information) on a dedicated channel in a wireless network. The identifying information may include information about neighboring access points in the wireless network. The neighboring access points may operate on the dedicated channel, a different primary operating channel, or a combination thereof. A station entering the wireless network may scan the dedicated channel to detect the identifying information from the access point to aid relatively quick discovery of the neighboring access points without scanning multiple channels.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed for managing possible mergers between neighbor-aware or social Wi-Fi network clusters in a wireless network. In one aspect, a method includes identifying, at a device of a group supported by a first wireless network cluster, a neighboring wireless network cluster. The method further includes joining the neighboring wireless network cluster while remaining in the first wireless network cluster. The method further includes determining whether to stay with either the neighboring wireless network cluster or the first wireless network cluster based on information from the neighboring wireless network cluster or the first wireless network cluster. The method further includes announcing a decision to leave the first wireless network cluster or the neighboring wireless network cluster.
