Abstract:
A method for dewatering a fiber suspension in a twin-wire press is disclosed including feeding the fiber suspension to an inlet end of an elongated dewatering space, dewatering the fiber suspension during displacement of the endless lower and upper wires which form the elongated dewatering space by flowing filtrate through the endless lower and upper wires, collecting the filtrate in outlet boxes, and adjusting the pressure differential between the elongated dewatering space and each of the upper and lower outlet boxes by controlling the counter-pressure applied to the filtrate flow on both sides of the endless upper and lower wires directly adjacent the inlet end of the dewatering space. A twin-wire press is also disclosed therein.
Abstract:
A process for draining a fibrous pulp web is preferably carried out on drum thickeners or disk filters. A suspension to be drained rests against a perforated first face, which is a part of the rotor of the drum thickener or disk filter, is transported from the suspension vat, and then arrives in a thickening region. The thickening region contains a second face, wherein the first and second face have a relative speed in relation to each other. The effectiveness of the thickening can be significantly increased by vacuum zones provided on the drum thickener or disk filter.
Abstract:
An endless woven fabric for condensing paper material and a method for forming such an endless fabric which removes ink and other extraneous substances from the aqueous solution of reclaimed paper material. On the endless fabric formed by weaving plastic monofilaments, an antiflexing part, 30-50 mm in width, is provided on at least one end of the selvage in the direction of width by causing thermoplastic resin to fill not less than 85% of an empty space in the endless woven fabric. Further, a guide ridge of thermoplastic resin is formed by causing thermoplastic resin to fill an empty space in the end parts on the running surface of the endless fabric, and is welded with the antiflexing part integrally. Platelike reinforcing strips are formed in a length nearly equal to the width of the endless fabric. The strips are extended between the opposite ends of the endless fabric by causing thermoplastic resin of the strips to fill not less than 85% of an empty space in the endless fabric.
Abstract:
A bending resistant part of an endless multilayer fabric for densifying paper materials is placed on a trimming part; to thereby prevent cutting of a fabric at the trimming part. Also oblique movement and dropping off a guide protrusion is prevented. Particularly, a bending resistant part is formed by filling a polyurethane resin in internal structure of an endless fabric of trimming part of the width direction of the fabric woven with arranging at least three layers of weft. A guide protrusion molded from similar polyurethane is arranged on the bending resistant part by fusion. Cutting caused by bending and wearing of the fabric near the guide protrusion is prevented.
Abstract:
A pulp dewatering and washing apparatus comprising a pressure vessel in which is contained a table assembly having a foraminous surface, in the form of a conveying belt, on which a pulp slurry is deposited. A differential pressure chamber in the table assembly is vented to a lower pressure location to cause a pressure differential across the pulp slurry to cause dewatering. Also, wash water is deposited on the dewatered pulp in sequential cycles to accomplish washing. A contact plate is provided to press the pulp slurry to aid in dewatering. The conveying belt of the table assembly on which the pulp slurry is deposited is stationary during the dewatering and washing, and then after the pressure differential between the vessel and the pressure differential chamber is reduced to zero, the conveyor belt moves the dewatered and washed slurry to a discharge location.
Abstract:
In apparatus for thickening a suspension of pulp material which includes an endless foraminous belt wrapping two spaced horizontally supported rolls, a special doctor mechanism is provided for transferring thickened pulp from the bare surface of the second roll into a trough mounted in the space bounded by the two rolls and the upper and lower runs of the belt. More specifically, the doctor mechanism includes a rigid doctor blade mounted with its working edge in close but spaced relation with the bare surface of the roll to remove pulp therefrom without contact with the roll surface. Provision is also made for periodically oscillating the blade about a horizontal axis to move its working edge away from and back to its closely spaced working relation with the roll.
Abstract:
A steam shower for reducing paper web moisture content variability in the cross machine direction is described. The local dewatering effect of the shower on the moving supported web is controlled by varying its bottom steam discharge area incrementally across the width of the web. In one embodiment the hood is divided across the width of the machine into compartments, each having at least one cross machine direction wall whose bottom edge may be adjusted relative to the rear wall of the hood. A second embodiment has a pleated curtain whose bottom edge is controlled by lever arms with respect to the hood's rear wall. Local adjustments are made based on a comparison of moisture measurements at the finished product reel with the desired level.
Abstract:
A slurry of cellulosic material is diluted to a flowable consistency and subjected to a pressure differential on a permeable surface to increase the slurry consistency to a value between the consistency of the diluted slurry and the consistency of the slurry prior to dilution thereby forming a mat of cellulosic material on the permeable surface. The liquid and solids which pass through the permeable surface as a result of the pressure differential are recycled for use as slurry diluent, and to the mat of cellulosic material, while the mat remains on the permeable surface and subject to the pressure differential, is countercurrently applied, in a plurality of treatment stages, a treating liquid, such as a wash liquid, including application of a fresh treating liquid to said mat in the last stage of said treatment stages, whereby the treating liquid displaces at least a portion of liquid present in said mat from said mat and through the permeable surface in each treatment stage. The electrical conductivity of the liquid displaced from said mat in the last stage of said treatment stages is measured, and the amount of fresh treating liquid applied in the last stage of said treatment stages is adjusted in response to the deviation, from a predetermined norm, of the measured value of electrical conductivity of only the liquid displaced in the last stage of said treatment stages.
Abstract:
A system comprising a pulper configured to (i) accept surfactant, a liquid and fiber stock and (ii) generate a foam that suspends the fiber stock, wherein the foam has a half-life; a headbox configured to receive the foam-suspended fiber stock from the pulper and displace the foam-suspended fiber stock onto a forming wire, wherein a time it takes the foam-suspended fiber stock to move from the pulper to the headbox is less than the half-life; and a foam return device that removes at least some of the foam from the forming wire and returns the at least some of the foam to the pulper.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to papermaking belts useful in the manufacture of paper products, such as tissue paper. Particularly this invention relates to a papermaking belt used in a through-air drying process for making tissue products, and more particularly to a belt having a particular pattern thereon which imparts properties to tissue products manufactured therewith. In some embodiments, the belt can be seamless. The belt can include a first web contacting area defining a first plane and a second web contacting area defining a second plane. The second plane can be above the first plane. The first web contacting area and the second web contacting area comprise a plurality of channels that extend from the web contacting side to the machine contacting side of the seamless papermaking belt.
