Abstract: Processes for converting lignocellulose to feedstock and downstream products are disclosed. The processes may include acid treatment of lignocellulose to produce a fermentation feedstock. In various instances, the processes include recovery or recycling of acid, such as recovery of hydrochloric acid from concentrated and/or dilute streams. Downstream products may include acrylic acid-based products such as diapers, paper and paper-based products, ethanol, biofuels such as biodiesel and fuel additives, and detergents.

Abstract: A biofuel includes a mixture having a gasoil generated from hydropyrolysis and hydroconversion of a solid biomass containing lignocellulose and an isomerized hydroprocessed ester and fatty acid (HEFA) generated from hydrotreating a renewable resource having fats and oils. The gasoil has a cetane index less than 46 and at least 10 parts per million weight (ppmw) of a heteroatom and a cetane index of the biofuel is greater than 46.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing bio-oil, which can be used as bio heavy fuel oil and bio marine oil, from a fatty acid with high acid value. The method for preparing bio-oil comprises the steps of: inputting materials comprising glycerine and a fatty acid into respective material input ports positioned in the center of a column-type reactor and esterification reacting the material comprising glycerine and fatty acid in each tray of a reaction area, thereby producing glyceride and water, wherein the column-type reactor has the plurality of trays installed inside the reactor so as to form a plurality of compartments in the vertical direction inside the reactor, openings are formed in the plurality of trays to connect the compartments which are vertically adjacent, and the openings of the adjacent compartments are alternately formed in a crisscrossing manner; obtaining the produced glyceride through a lower part of the reactor; and vaporizing the water produced by the esterification reaction, moving the water in a vapor state to a distillation area in an upper part of the reactor to separate the water from active components (reaction material and bio-oil) comprised in the vapor, allowing the separated active components to flow into the reaction area, and removing the separated water through the upper part of the reactor in a vapor state. The acid value of the glyceride is 30 mgKOH/g or lower, and the esterification reaction is performed at a reaction temperature of 200 to 250° C. and at ordinary pressure without using a catalyst.

Abstract: Methanol-to-gasoline conversion may be performed using a heavy gasoline treatment, followed by a separation operation. Methanol may be converted into a first product mixture comprising dimethyl ether (DME) under DME formation conditions. In a methanol-to-gasoline (MTG) reactor, the first product mixture may be converted under MTG conversion conditions to produce a second product mixture comprising light gasoline hydrocarbons and untreated heavy gasoline hydrocarbons. The untreated heavy gasoline hydrocarbons may be separated from the light gasoline hydrocarbons and transferred to a heavy gasoline treatment (HGT) reactor. The untreated heavy gasoline hydrocarbons may be catalytically reacted in the HGT reactor to form a third product mixture. A heavy hydrocarbon fraction may be separated from the third product mixture. The heavy hydrocarbon fraction includes heavy gasoline hydrocarbons having a lower boiling endpoint than does the untreated heavy gasoline hydrocarbons.

Abstract: A distillation apparatus for use in microwave-assisted pyrolysis includes a microwave, a pyrolysis reactor, a microwave-absorbent bed, and a condenser. The pyrolysis reactor is located within the microwave and configured to receive a liquid input stream and to output a vapor. The microwave-absorbent bed is located within the pyrolysis reactor that converts microwave energy provided by the microwave to thermal energy to initiate pyrolysis within the pyrolysis reactor, wherein the pyrolysis reactor provides a vapor output. The condenser is configured to receive the vapor output of the pyrolysis reactor and to cool and condense the vapor into a recoverable product.

Abstract: A process of producing a hydrocracking product in a slurry hydrocracking reactor. A pyrolysis oil, a hydrocarbon feedstock, and a hydrocracking catalyst is provided. The pyrolysis oil is combined with the hydrocarbon feedstock and the hydrocracking catalyst, the pyrolysis oil being maintained at a temperature of less than 100° C. until the pyrolysis oil contacts both the hydrocarbon feedstock and the hydrocracking catalyst. The hydrocarbon feedstock and the pyrolysis oil are hydrocracked in the slurry hydrocracking reactor in the presence of the hydrocracking catalyst and hydrogen gas. A fuel precursor obtainable by the process.

Abstract: This disclosure pertains to the use of black liquors from kraft pulp mills as a source of catalysts for the thermochemical conversion of organic matter feedstocks to bio oils. More particularly, some embodiments pertain to integrated kraft pulp mill and thermochemical conversion systems, which include: a Kraft pulp mill comprising a digester for digesting a lignocellulosic material with white liquor to produce pulp and black liquors; a thermochemical conversion subsystem comprising: at least one mixing tank for combining pulping liquors received from the pulp mill with an organic matter feedstock and water to produce a reaction mixture; a reactor vessel for treating the reaction mixture received from the mixing tank at a reaction temperature and pressure suitable for conversion of all or a portion of the organic matter in the reaction mixture into a product mixture comprising a bioproduct and an aqueous stream containing both organic and inorganic compounds; and a depressurizer for depressurizing product mixture received from the reactor vessel; and one or more conveyors for conveying the pulping liquors from the pulp mill to the mixing tank.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of producing industrial products from plant lipids, particularly from vegetative parts of plants. In particular, the present invention provides oil products such as biodiesel and synthetic diesel and processes for producing these, as well as plants having an increased level of one or more non-polar lipids such as triacylglycerols and an increased total non-polar lipid content. In one particular embodiment, the present invention relates to combinations of modifications in two or more of lipid handling enzymes, oil body proteins, decreased lipid catabolic enzymes and/or transcription factors regulating lipid biosynthesis to increase the level of one or more non-polar lipids and/or the total non-polar lipid content and/or mono-unsaturated fatty acid content in plants or any part thereof. In an embodiment, the present invention relates to a process for extracting lipids. In another embodiment, the lipid is converted to one or more hydrocarbon products in harvested plant vegetative parts to produce alkyl esters of the fatty acids which are suitable for use as a renewable biodiesel fuel.

Abstract: The disclosure provides for the integration of a CO-consuming process, such as a gas fermentation process, with a CO2 to CO conversion system. The disclosure is capable of utilizing a CO2-comprising gaseous substrate generated by an industrial process and provides for one or more removal modules to remove at least one constituent from a CO2-comprising gaseous substrate prior to passage of the gaseous substrate to a CO2 to CO conversion system. The disclosure may further comprise one or more pressure modules, one or more CO2 concentration modules, one or more O2 separation modules, and/or a water electrolysis module. Carbon conversion efficiency is increased by recycling CO2 produced by a CO-consuming process to the CO2 to CO conversion process.
