摘要:
A digital watermark is added to audio or visual content. An illustrative embodiment permutes the content, alters the permuted content to encode a watermark, and inverse-permutes the content to return same to substantially its original form. Related watermark decoding methods are also detailed, as are ancillary features and techniques.
摘要:
A method of embedding information in digital content representing media streams. The method includes (1) selecting a set of locations within that digital content reprensenting the media stream to embed information, (2) selecting a set of possible alterations to make at those locations, and (3) making a subset of the possible alterations. The set of locations and possible alterations is herein sometimes called a “watermark.” The subset of actual alterations that are made is herein sometimes called a “fingerprint.” The method determines a set of locations at which there are alternative versions of digital content representing the same media stream, such as one being the original and one being an alternative version of the same digital content, herein sometimes called the “original movie” and the “alt-movie,” or herein sometimes called the “original block” and the “alt-block” for a particular block in the digital content representing the media stream.

Methods and systems for watermarking of digital images are presented. In one aspect, a method of embedding information in a digital image includes transforming the digital image to a set of coefficient blocks having coefficients in a frequency domain, embedding a watermark-indicator in one or more of the coefficient blocks, and embedding a watermark in one or more watermark blocks that have a predetermined number of coefficient blocks. The embedded watermark is substantially invisible in the output watermarked digital image. Another aspect is a method of extracting a watermark from a digital image that includes transforming a digital image to a coefficient matrix, determining if the digital image is watermarked based on a predetermined watermark-indicator, and retrieving a watermark from a projected watermark block of a projected watermark block distribution.

One claim recites a method including: receiving data representing a media signal; using a programmed electronic processor, calculating perceptibility characteristics of the media signal, in which the perceptibility characteristics include contrast; using a programmed electronic processor, calculating a non-linear contrast to gain mapping using the perceptibility characteristics; using a programmed electronic processor, embedding an auxiliary signal in the media signal with reference to the non-linear contrast to gain mapping. Other claims and combinations are also provided.
摘要:
A method of embedding auxiliary data in coefficients generated for a compressed data stream applies embedding rules to selected coefficients in different blocks to embed the data. The method receives coefficients in a data stream in which the coefficients are divided into blocks. It changes the value of selected coefficients to embed multi-bit message data in the coefficients. The process of changing the coefficients includes controlling changes to the selected coefficients from different blocks so that the relationship of the selected coefficients from the different blocks satisfy an embedding rule. One embedding rule causes the embedded data to form a pattern across the blocks. Another rule causes coefficients of blocks to have a desired phase relationship. Another rule enforces entropy and/or bit rate constraints onto the data stream. These embedding rules facilitate data hiding within bit rate and perceptibility constraints, while increasing robustness.

The present invention relates generally to embedding auxiliary data and data hiding. One claim recites a method including: calculating with a processor or electronic circuitry characteristics of a media signal comprising audio or video; based at least in part on calculated characteristics of the media signal, providing a map of the media signal, wherein the map identifies at least one portion of the media signal in which plural-bit data should be steganographically encoded; transforming at least some portions of the media signal into a transform domain; and steganographically encoding with a processor or electronic circuitry auxiliary data in data representing at least the one portion of the media signal in which the plural-bit data should be steganographically encoded, and wherein at least said act of transforming or said act of steganographically encoding utilizes the map of the media signal. Other claims and combinations are also provided.

According to the present invention there is provided an encoding data processing apparatus for generating a marked copy of an item of material by introducing code words into a copy of the material item. The code words are arranged to identify a data word from a set of data words having at least two fields. The apparatus comprises a code word generator operable to generate at least two code words having a plurality of code word coefficients, each of the code words being independently generated from a different code word seed, and an encoding processor operable to combine the code word coefficients with the material item. One of the code words is selected from a first set in dependence upon a value of a first of the data fields and one of the code words is selected from a second set in dependence upon a value of a second of the data fields. The values of the first data field are associated with the first set of code words and values of the second data field are associated with the second set of code words, the second set of code words being selected in dependence upon the value of the first data field. By arranging for a value of a second or subsequent data field to be selected in dependence upon a value of the first or a previous data field, then a detecting complexity for unambiguously identifying the data word can be substantially reduced.

Embodiments of the invention are directed toward reversible/invertible and lossless, image data hiding that can imperceptibly hide data into digital images and can reconstruct the original image without any distortion after the hidden data have been extracted in various digital image formats including, but not limited to Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG). In particular, embodiments of the invention provide a lossless data hiding technique for JPEG images based on histogram pairs. that embeds data into the JPEG quantized 8×8 block DCT coefficients and achieves good performance in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) versus payload through manipulating histogram pairs with optimum threshold and optimum region of the JPEG DCT coefficients. Furthermore, the invented technology is expected to be able to apply to the I-frame of Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) video for various applications including annotation, authentication, and forensics.

A digital watermark detection method exploits autocorrelation properties of the watermarked signal that enable synchronization of the digital watermark despite temporal or geometric distortion of the host signal. Other watermark methods employ keys, including a key dependent on the content in which the watermark is embedded and another key that is not dependent on the content.

Embodiments of the present invention provide digital watermarking methods that embed a digital watermark in both the low and high frequencies of an image or other production, providing a digital watermark that is resistant to a variety of attacks. The digital watermarking methods of the present invention optimize the strength of the embedded digital watermark such that it is as powerful as possible without being perceptible to the human eye. The digital watermarking methods of the present invention do this relatively quickly, in real-time, and in an automated fashion using an intelligent system, such as a neural network. The digital watermarking methods of the present invention may also be used in a variety of new applications, such as the digital watermarking of sensitive aircraft parts and military equipment.
