An insert, a pipe assembly, and a method for forming a pipe assembly are disclosed. The pipe assembly includes a hollow body and an insert bonded to the hollow body. The insert spans a knit line defined in the hollow body. The insert is formed from a fiber reinforced polymer material. The fibers are generally anisotropic, and preferably unidirectional, and the insert is oriented such that the fibers extend at an angle to the knit line and thus span the knit line. Preferably, the fibers extend perpendicularly to the knit line. The use of an insert having such an orientation reinforces the hollow body, particularly at the knit line. Thus, the use of such an insert bonded to a hollow body according to the present disclosure produces a pipe assembly having increased pressure ratings.

The present invention relates to a method for reinforcing a connection tube having an expansion part, and to a connection tube having an expansion part reinforced by said method, characterized in that, in the method, a reinforcing tube manufactured using a homogeneous or heterogeneous synthetic resin, which is mounted on the outer surface of one end of a tube body formed by extruding a synthetic resin, and said tube body, in which the expansion part is to be formed, are heated to the glass transition temperature thereof. Then, the end of the tube body is fitted and fixed into an external former mold for expansion within a range in which said reinforcing tube is mounted, and an expansion member is inserted into the tube body so as to expand and form the end of the tube body on which the reinforcing tube is mounted. The connection tube reinforced as described above is expanded while the reinforcing tube made of the resin material is mounted on the end of the tube body in which the expansion part is to be formed. Thus, the reinforcing tube supplements the expansion part, which is relatively thin, due to the extension thereof, so as to prevent the expansion part from being damaged by external impacts and to prevent a bent portion of the expansion part from being broken by internal or external pressure, such as soil pressure or water pressure.

An improved molded plastic elbow and a related mold assembly and manufacturing method are provided, wherein the elbow defines an internal flow path having a smoothly radiused inside turn. The elbow is formed by injecting plastic material into a tubular mold cavity formed by closed mold members in cooperation with a pair of slidably retractable core units of circular cross section and having distal ends in mating, angularly set end-to-end contact to form the internal flow path having a turn formed along the length thereof. Each core unit comprises an outer core pin to form an outer portion of the flow path and including a ramped track for slide-fit mounting of an inner slide segment which forms an inner portion of the flow path and further includes a curved inside edge to form a portion of the smoothly radiused inside turn. Initial retraction of each outer core pin from the mold cavity permits relative advancement of the inner slide segment along the ramped track toward a centerline of the flow path, sufficiently for the curved inside edge of the inner slide segment to clear the radiused inside turn of the molded elbow and thereby enable interference-free linear withdrawal of the core unit from the molded plastic part.

There is provided a duct and an associated preform and method. The duct is formed of a thermoplastic material and is lightweight, strong, flame and smoke resistant, and non-toxic. The duct is formed from a flat laminate and does not require a specialized, disposable mandrel for supporting conventional thermoset plies. Preferably, the duct is formed from a preform, which is cut according to the desired shape and size of the duct so that trimming after the duct has been formed is not required. Additionally, features such as holes and spud locations can be provided by cutting or marking the preform before forming the duct. Each duct can be formed of multiple articulated segments that are joined by connectors.
