Abstract:
Provided is a cascade refrigeration system for a transport unit. The cascade refrigeration system has a first refrigeration cycle comprising a first compressor and a first expansion valve, a second refrigeration cycle comprising a second compressor and a second expansion valve, and a cascade heat exchanger. The cascade heat exchanger comprises a condenser side fluidically coupled downstream of the first compressor and upstream of the first expansion valve, and an evaporator side fluidically coupled downstream of the second expansion valve and upstream of the second compressor. The cascade refrigeration system also comprises a pre-cooler comprising a first side and a second side. The first side is fluidically coupled downstream of the first compressor and upstream of the condenser side of the cascade heat exchanger, and the pre-cooler is configured to transfer heat between refrigerant in the first side and refrigerant in the second side.
Abstract:
A system and method of reducing corrosion in the ballast tanks of a ship is comprised of a central inert gas manifold extending down into the furthest reaches of the ballast tank, a plurality of lateral gas distribution manifolds extending away from the central manifold, and a plurality of downwardly projecting diffusers connected to the lateral gas distributors that release the inert gas at multiple simultaneous points within the ballast tank space. A method is further presented for using the diffuser array to sparge the ballast water with the inert gas to inhibit microbiological induced corrosion.
Abstract:
A storage system for a boat includes one or more storage compartments situated in a bow of a boat. An air flow path includes an air inlet opening, the storage compartment, and an air outlet opening. A fan is situated to move air along the air flow path. The fan may be positioned proximate one of the air inlet and the air outlet, for example.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a ship comprising at least one hold, and at least one ventilation apparatus for ventilation of the hold, which has at least one air inlet and at least one air outlet connected to the air inlet by means of a passage. In particular the invention concerns a ship having a ventilation apparatus, wherein the passage has at least one portion arranged above the air inlet. The invention further concerns a ventilation apparatus for ventilation of the hold of a ship.
Abstract:
A (1) piping grid, nozzles and/or deflectors and/or diffusers placed on the piping at a certain intervals, and (2) header pipes connecting the piping grid to (3) an inert gas generator via (4) a compressor and (5) an optional cooler support efficient and effective injection of inert gases into all regions and volume of ships' steel ballast tanks, retarding or avoiding corrosion. Efficiency in use of generated inert gas, effective entrance of inert gas into ballast tank spaces that may be remote and/or difficult of access, and minimization of the elapsed time to fill the tank with inert gas while discharging essentially all oxygen-containing air previously within the tank, are all realized by progressive, staged, insertion of cooled inert gases from tank bottom to tank top, marshaling contained air and expelling it out the tank tops.
Abstract:
A method and a device for protecting a vessel's loading space, the hold (1) of the vessel being provided with cargo pressure tanks (12), from excess pressure if a gas leakage should occur in the hold (1), the vessel being provided with a ventilating duct (8) which is separated in a gastight manner from the remaining rooms of the vessel and extends along the hold (1) of the vessel.
Abstract:
A sport or pleasure fishing boat having a closed live well for holding a selected volume of water and a live well ventilation vent unit mounted in a top wall overlying well. The live well vent unit is an open ended elongate sleeve that projects through the wall into the well. There is a partition dividing the interior of the sleeve into first and second separate vertical disposed air flow passages. Baffles extend from the upper end of the partition and overlying a portion of the respective passages exposed to atmosphere. The baffles slope upwardly and outwardly away from the partition and terminate in a free outer edge spaced a selected distance from the adjacently disposed end of the sleeve. The space between the baffle and sleeve defines a crescent shaped opening for the flow of air there through. The free outer edge of the baffle is spaced vertically from the upper end of the sleeve to catch and deflect a current of air into the well above the water therein.
Abstract:
A submersion tank for on-board brine freezing of whole or nearly whole fish, and a method for freezing fish employing such tank. One or more pivotable screen baskets are provided in tank containing refrigerated brine. The pivotable screen baskets are provided in a normal, fish receiving position immersed in refrigerated brine. Once fish are frozen, the pivotable screen baskets are pivoted upward to a fish unloading position for delivery of frozen fish for bagging and storage.
Abstract:
A cargo ship for transporting wheeled vehicles and cargo units simultaneously has a hull with a bottom structure and a cargo space defined within the hull. The cargo space has at least first and second cargo sections. The first cargo section has a space grillage structure that is self-supporting and flexibly mounted to the hull of the ship so as to diminish the transmission of hull deformation loads to the space grillage structure. The second cargo section is located below the first cargo section and has cargo holds for containing heavy-weight cargo to provide ballast for the ship.
Abstract:
In a ship having a hull, a loading hatch, and a cargo hold which has a bottom and may contain a bulk material and a preparation that releases a pesticide, a device for disinfecting the bulk material comprising line sections of a total link which may be adjusted to the height of the cargo hold and a mechanism for detachably mounting the line sections to the ship. The line sections are joined together and have a first end portion disposed at the bottom of the cargo hold and a second end portion disposed in the vicinity of the loading hatch. The first end portion of the joined line sections have a plurality of gas openings and the second end portion of the joined line sections is connected to a centrifugal fan so that the pesticide-enriched air may be circulated through the bulk material.
