摘要： A novel cushioning conversion machine and method for converting sheet stock material into a novel cushioning product and for producing discrete sections or pads of desired length, without the need for a cutting assembly, thereby enabling the construction of a less expensive, smaller and less complex machine. The machine and method are characterized by a weakening device for perforating a sheet stock material of one or more plies along tear lines so that as a strip of cushioning is formed from the stock material, discrete sections or pads of desired length may be detachable along the tear lines. The stock material includes material which is biodegradable, recyclable and composed of a renewable resource, such as kraft paper.

摘要： A method comprises pulling a continuous web to advance the web along a path of conveyance and to create tension in a lengthwise portion of the web; manipulating the web to cause the portion of the web at a point along the path to have a non-uniform tension across the width of the web, with a maximum tension being at a location spaced from the first longitudinal edge of the web, and with the tension decreasing from such location toward the first longitudinal edge of the web such that a zone in the web at the first longitudinal edge has reduced tension; and controlling transverse positioning of the first longitudinal edge in the zone of reduced tension. The reduced-tension zone is produced by a tension-reducing member about which the web is pulled.

摘要： An apparatus for producing air-cushion elements having at least one supply roll (1) of laminatable plastic film material (9) comprises a cutting means (21) for cutting at least one opening into the plastic film material, which is double-layered in the apparatus. By means of a blower (29), air is blowable through said opening into the plastic film material. By means of closing means (23, 24), a sealed air cushion can be created from the plastic film material. A cam disc (10) is provided that has a series of raised guide means (11, 16, 17) that are in direct actuation contact with the cutting means (21) and with the closing means (23, 24). In this manner a very simple apparatus of this type has been created in which, moreover, a simple cutting blade can be used that is also exchangeable in a simple manner.

In the disclosed embodiments, a preconfigured packing material having inflatable chambers separated by rows of perforations is fed at a predetermined speed in a direction generally perpendicular to the rows and periodically pulled upon rather abruptly to produce a partial tearing of the material along central portions of the rows of perforations.

摘要： A system for creating and dispensing cushioning dunnage includes a plurality of material shaping members to convert a sheet stock material into a continuous strip of cushioning product. The shaping members include a constant-entry roller assembly having at least two tapered rollers supported end to end for rotation about respective ones of first and second axes arranged at an obtuse angle whose aspect faces a circumferential side of the rollers that first engages sheet stock material traveling over the rollers from a supply roll of the material. The tapered rollers present material engaging surfaces on an imaginary material conversion line transverse to the travel direction of the material where the material first engages the rollers for more precise and consistent control of alignment of the stock material. The roller assembly has free ends over which the sheet stock material can be folded to reduce the width of the material traveling over the rollers.

摘要： A supply of sheet stock material for use in a cushioning conversion machine is disclosed. The supply of stock material includes at least one ply of sheet stock material rolled or folded into a compact configuration such as a roll of wound stock material or a stack of fan-folded stock material. The ply has disposed on a leading or trailing end thereof, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer and a removable release liner covering the pressure sensitive adhesive layer. When a supply of sheet stock material is almost spent, a succeeding supply of stock material may be spliced to the almost spent supply by removing the release liner to expose the adhesive and then applying the leading or trailing end, having the adhesive thereon, to a trailing end of the almost spent supply of stock material or leading end of the succeeding supply of stock material.

The method employs feeding a substantially continuous web of tissue paper material having a weight of between 1 pound and 20 pounds per 3,000 square feet of tissue paper under tension over at least one knife edge prior to slitting and cutting the paper web into desired widths and lengths. The results are a curly cue product that makes superb packing material for any number of delicate elements that need to be shipped and is eminently useful in decorative packaging. The product described herein is easy to use, has considerably more packing value than other paper packing products and is environmentally safe.
