摘要: The general inventive concepts relate generally to carbon enhanced reinforcement (CER) fibers, and more particularly, to the controlled dispersion of CER fibers within aqueous or non-aqueous media. The general inventive concepts particularly relate to the controlled dispersion of CER fibers within aqueous or non-aqueous media for forming a nonwoven chopped CER fiber mat. The general inventive concepts also relate to the controlled dispersion of CNSs harvested from CER fibers within aqueous or non-aqueous media for forming a nonwoven CNS mat. Methods for dispersing the CNSs or the CER fibers in aqueous or non-aqueous media are also provided.

摘要: A method for filling a muffler with a fibrous material is disclosed. The muffler includes partitions which form a first chamber and second chamber, and a first muffler pipe having an outlet end. A filling aperture at one end of the second muffler pipe is positioned in the first muffler chamber. The second muffler pipe has a filling sleeve therein, the filling sleeve having a filling discharge opening that coordinates with the filling aperture of the second muffler pipe. The first muffler chamber is filled with fibrous material by applying a vacuum source to the first muffler pipe, which draws the fibrous material through the filling aperture. The filling aperture of the second muffler pipe is then positioned into the second muffler chamber, and the second muffler chamber is filled in the same manner as the first muffler chamber. The filling sleeve is then removed from the second muffler pipe.

摘要: An automatic restart procedure for a system for manufacturing chopped strands. At least one strand coming from a bushing is grabbed by a gripping device. The gripping device is moved right to a drawing device, the drawing device configured to bring the strand to a drawing speed compatible with a chopping operation carried out as the strand passes between an anvil wheel and a chopper wheel of a chopping machine. The path of the strand between the bushing and the drawing device is modified using a transfer device, the transfer device configured to pass the strand between the anvil wheel and the chopper wheel using an engagement device, or to be moved away from the chopper wheel and the anvil wheel.

摘要: Wet-laid, non-woven chopped strand mats that are soft, flexible, and resistant to styrene are provided. The mats are at least partially coated with a binder composition that includes a thermosetting binder resin, a silane coupling agent, a hydrocarbon-based antifoaming agent. Optionally, a crosslinking agent, such as a resin-based crosslinking agent, may be included in the composition. In one or more embodiments, the chopped strand mats are formed of chopped glass fibers having diameters from about 5 to about 30 microns and lengths from about 0.5 to about 2.0 inches. The softness and flexibility of the chopped strand mats enable the formation of pultruded products having complex shapes. Additionally, the resistance to styrene monomers provided by the binder composition makes the inventive mats particularly suitable for pultrusion processes.

摘要: A process for manufacturing a composite yarn including continuous glass filaments intermingled with continuous organic thermoplastic filaments and an apparatus for implementing the process. The continuous glass filaments come from a bushing and are separated into plural sheets. The continuous organic thermoplastic filaments come from a spinning head and are separated into plural sheets. The thermoplastic filaments are thrown into the glass filaments so as to mingle them, in a ratio of at least one sheet of thermoplastic filaments in each sheet of glass filaments, the mingled filaments then being gathered into at least one composite yarn.
