摘要: An apparatus for optically circulating light beams between ports is disclosed, with a first port positioned at a proximal end of the apparatus, a second port positioned at a distal end of the apparatus, and a third port positioned at the proximal end of the apparatus. The first port is capable of transmitting a first light beam and the second port is capable of transmitting a second light beam. The apparatus includes a first beam bender. The first beam bender has opposing first and second faces. The first face and the second face are at an angle to one another. The first face and the second face intersect a longitudinal axis extending from the proximal to the distal end of the optical circulator. The beam bender is responsive to a polarization orientation of the first light beam to refract the first light beam toward the second port. The beam bender is further responsive to a polarization orientation of the second light beam to refract the second light beam toward the third port. The apparatus may additionally comprise end portions and imaging elements. The first and second end portions are positioned at either end of the apparatus to impart a propagation direction dependent polarization to the first light beam and the second light beam. The first imaging element and the second imaging element are positioned between the first and second end portions. The first imaging element bends the first light beam to a focal point between the first and the second imaging element. The second imaging element bends the second light beam to the focal point. The first beam bender is positioned proximate the focal point and is responsive to a polarization orientation of the first light beam to refract the first light beam toward the second port, and is further responsive to a polarization orientation of the second light beam to refract the second light beam toward the third port.

摘要: A method and apparatus for surgical and dermatological treatment using a multi-wavelength laser system includes a primary laser beam generator optically pumped by a semiconductor laser diode. A portion or all of the optical pumping energy may be outputted with the primary laser beam output to form a multi-wavelength treatment beam. A frequency doubling medium, such as a KTP or LBO crystal, may be imposed in the output of the laser beam generator to produce an additional wavelength that may be combined into the multi-wavelength treatment beam. To achieve high peak power pulse laser output, a Q-switch element can be placed in front or in back of the laser crystal. Alternatively, the laser system may output only the wavelength of the semiconductor laser diode pumping system. The selection of one or more wavelengths provides a wider range of treatment modalities using a single laser system, without creating problems attendant with the complexity and maintenance of prior art multi-wavelength laser systems. The laser system may include a plurality of laser diodes, each arranged to generate an output at a respective unique wavelength. The laser diode outputs are combined in a beam mixer and directed through a fiberoptic delivery system to a surgical handpiece or the like. The laser diodes are operated individually to provide a combination of wavelengths of laser light that may be adjusted continuously in CW mode or pulse mode to create varying thermal effects for different treatment modalities.

摘要: An intracavity doubled single longitudinal mode laser is disclosed which provides stable (i.e., low amplitude variation in its output beam intensity), efficient operation. An associated method is also disclosed. The laser includes an input mirror and an output mirror defining a resonant cavity and a light path within the resonant cavity and between the mirrors. The output mirror is configured to be substantially transparent to an output wavelength produced within the cavity. A lasant material is positioned in the light path for producing light at a desired fundamental wavelength and possibly other, unwanted wavelengths. Polarizing element and a type I doubling material are also positioned in the light path. During operation of the laser, the polarizing element polarizes the desired fundamental wavelength as well as the unwanted wavelengths of light produced by the lasant material. The type I doubling material then produces output wavelengths at twice the frequency of any wavelengths passing therethrough. The type I doubling material and the polarizing element are arranged such that they cooperate in a way which causes the unwanted wavelengths to be subjected to losses which result in the unwanted wavelengths being extinguished while the desired fundamental wavelength is subjected to a level of loss above a lasing threshold so that the desired fundamental wavelength lases, thereby producing the desired output wavelength. In one aspect of the invention, blue light may be produced as the output wavelength with an efficiency which has not been seen previously.

摘要: A system and method is described for permitting the simultaneous automated collection of data with regard to the presence of diseased cells, in particular neo-plastic, dysplastic or cancerous cells, or normal cells at a given site in a section of tissue. This is accomplished according to the following steps. First, IR spectral data are collected simultaneously for each cell or pixel of the tissue. Next, these data are analyzed by identifying the cell types encountered in the sample by comparing them with reference data sets for healthy and diseased cells. Finally, a false color mapping of the distribution of different types of cells in the tissue section is presented that permits assessment of the prevalence of diseased cells.

摘要: Various embodiments provide an ability to automatically boot a computing device with an operating system stored on a portable storage device when the portable storage device is detected to be present. The computing device can be configured to dynamically boot from the portable storage device when the portable storage device is detected, and revert to a programmed boot order in its associated boot module when the portable storage device is not detected. In some embodiments, the operating system is fully encapsulated on the portable storage device, such as the operating system being completely separate from an operating system initially booting the computing device.
