    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A UE may receive, from a base station, an indication of a degree of UE loading for at least one of a set of reconfigurable reflective surfaces that are configured to assist in communications between the UE and the base station. The UE may select a reconfigurable reflective surface for use in the communications between the UE and the base station based on the degree of UE loading of the selected reconfigurable reflective surface, and transmit a signal to the base station via the selected reconfigurable reflective surface. In some cases, the UE may receive, from the base station, an indication for the UE to use a different reconfigurable reflective surface than the selected reconfigurable reflective surface, and may transmit a second signal to the base station via a second reconfigurable reflective surface based on the indication.

A user equipment (UE) receives an indication of one or more peak-reduction tone (PRT) resources for a transmission of one or more signals for a base station. The UE transmits a first signal to the base station on an uplink. The UE transmits a second signal to a relay entity on a sidelink for reception by the base station. The second signal is transmitted on the sidelink utilizing the one or more PRT resources.

    Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to techniques for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction based on a tone reservation (TR) algorithm. For a TR algorithm, a suitable subset of tones from among a full set of tones in a given resource allocation are reserved for use as peak reduction tones (PRT). An apparatus, such as a wireless communication device, selects a set of PRTs based on a deterministic pseudo-random tone selection algorithm, such as quadratic sampling, cubic sampling, or Fibonacci-type sampling. The apparatus determines a PAPR reduction waveform for transmission on the PRTs and transmits a data waveform multiplexed with the PAPR reduction waveform on resources corresponding to the resource allocation. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

The transmitting device applies a second MCS to a second set of data tones that overlaps with a second set of PRTs within the plurality of tones, the second set of PRTs being associated with a second PAPR reduction signal. The transmitting device can transmit a transmission signal comprising the first set of data tones and the second set of data tones, the transmission signal using a waveform based at least in part on the first PAPR reduction signal and the second PAPR reduction signal.
