    摘要: There is provided a heat shrinkable, high barrier laminate film which includes a hot blown, melt oriented high oxygen barrier film, of relatively high crystallinity and correspondingly relatively low ultimate elongation, laminated to a stretch oriented base film having a shrink tension substantially greater than that of said barrier film, the extent of orientation of said base film being sufficient such that its ultimate elongation is reduced so as to be commensurate with that of said barrier film. In one preferred mode, the barrier film is a layflat tubular film having its interior layflat surfaces laminated together. Representatively, the high barrier layer of the barrier film is vinylidene chloride copolymer having at least about 85% by weight vinylidene chloride content, preferably at least about 90%. Associated methods for making the laminate films are also provided.

    摘要: A modular disk coextrusion die is formed of a plurality of cells stacked together. Each cell includes an arrangement of thin annular disks, including at least a first cap disk, a first distribution disk, a first transition disk and a first spreader disk. The modular disk coextrusion die includes at least one channel disk having at least one inlet opening and at least two outlet openings per inlet opening. The thin annular disks are configured so that a first of the outlet openings of the channel disk is in fluid communication with the first distribution disk in the first cell and a second of the outlet openings in the channel disk is in fluid communication with the first distribution disk in the second cell. The channel disk provides for a more efficient utilization of space at the inlet of the modular disk coextrusion die and enables the feeding of up to twenty melt streams.

    摘要: The present invention provides a method for the semi-continuous production of microcellular foam articles. In a preferred embodiment, a roll of polymer sheet is provided with a gas channelling means interleaved between the layers of polymer. The roll is exposed to a non-reacting gas at elevated pressure for a period of time sufficient to achieve a desired concentration of gas within the polymer. The saturated polymer sheet is then separated from the gas channelling means and bubble nucleation and growth is initiated by heating the polymer sheet. After foaming, bubble nucleation and growth is quenched by cooling the foamed polymer sheet.

    摘要: Polymeric, thin oriented films can be made by use of a combination of a hot blown process and a blown bubble process, i.e. a double bubble process. The resulting film has use in replacing PVC for in store stretch wrap applications. Very low density polyethylene, VLDPE, is an especially preferred material for this process. It may be used as a monolayer, or as one layer of a multilayer structure. In practicing the invention, the polymer is extruded and hot blown, and heated to a temperature above its orientation temperature. This heating can be accomplished by the use of a heated liquid reservoir or sock disposed at the lower end of the primary bubble, inside the bubble. The hot blown heated film is then passed through a first set of pinch rolls, re-inflated into a blown bubble, and collapsed at a second set of pinch rolls. Thin, tough and elastic packaging materials are obtained by this process.
