Abstract:
Methods and systems for classifying WLAN access points according to the quality of estimation of characteristics of the WLAN access points are provided. The classifications may be used to scale a reference database and quantify an expected error of estimation of the characteristics of the access points. WLAN access points may be classified based on their impact on a user's position, speed of travel, and direction of travel estimation accuracy in a WLAN positioning system. A method for determining a quality of estimation of characteristics of a Wi-Fi access point comprises a Wi-Fi enabled scanning device measuring a number of received signal strength (RSS) samples of the Wi-Fi signal transmitted by the Wi-Fi access point. A total distance traveled by the Wi-Fi enabled scanning device while measuring the number of RSS samples is estimated and used to estimate the quality of estimation of characteristics of the Wi-Fi access point.

Disclosed are methods for detecting multidrug resistance in neoplastic or damaged cells or multidrug resistant (MDR) neoplastic or damaged cells by detecting an increase in the cell surface expression of vimentin protein in such cells as compared to the level of cell surface expression of vimentin protein in a normal cell or a non-MDR neoplastic cell.

Methods of treating or preventing a disorder, or a complication of a disorder, of an eye of a subject, comprising contacting a vitreous and/or aqueous humor with a composition comprising a truncated form of plasmin comprising a catalytic domain of plasmin (TPCD) are disclosed. TPCDs include, but are not limited to, miniplasmin, microplasmin and derivatives and variants thereof. The methods of the invention can be used to reduce the viscosity of the vitreous, liquefy the vitreous, induce posterior vitreous detachment, reduce hemorrhagic blood from the eye, clear or reduce materials toxic to the eye, clear or reduce intraocular foreign substances from the eye, increase diffusion of a composition administered to an eye, reduce extraretinal neovascularization and any combinations thereof. The method can be used in the absence of, or as an adjunct to, vitrectomy.

A method of segmenting relative user preferences into fine-grain and coarse-grain collections is provided. The method includes providing a set of content items having associated descriptive terms. The method also includes receiving user search input and, in response thereto, presenting a subset of content items. The method includes receiving user selection actions and analyzing the selections to learn the user's preferred descriptive terms. The method includes expressing the learned preferred descriptive terms as a segmented probability distribution function having at least one fine grain segment and at least one coarse grain segment. In response to subsequent search input, the method calls for selecting and ordering a collection of content items by promoting the ranking of content items associated with the learned preferred descriptive terms of the user according to the differentiation provided by the segmented probability distribution function.
Abstract:
A UPIKM database system with an integrated XML interface is disclosed. The system is more efficient and returns search requests more rapidly in light of the database structure and interaction. This is in-part accomplished by each of the tables having only one key to distinguish a record that is to be used by one application from the record of another application. The system combines up to two database system operations into an integrated system such that up to two search methods can be performed with each search request and the retrieved information is based on these two search methods. The search requests are generated by the system user through the XML interface such that the requests are presented to the UPIKM database system in XML and the responses from the UPIKM database system to the XML interface are in XML. This structure permits a variety of applications to be supported by the present invention with a minimal need for the use of programmers.

A modified laryngeal mask airway device (LMA-device) is provided with means to improve ease of insertion, reliability of function and higher seal pressure (i.e., cuff pressure ratio). The LMA-device includes an indented section of the airway tube to offer locating means and purchase for the inserting finger, and extended mask aperture bars to increase the effective ventilating area of the mask and reduce the possibility of epiglottis displacement occasioned by mask insertion. The LMA-device further includes a modification of the airway tube angle of attachment to the mask, and provision of a posterior or back-cushion covering the entire posterior surface of the mask.
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically mapping of hypertext input fields to software components. The system includes a hypertext preprocessor, a name-space manager, a data handler, and a component manager. The hypertext preprocessor examines the hypertext input field names and uses the name-space manager and component manager to determine the mapping between input field names and software component properties. When the hypertext page is rendered, the name-space manager registers the mapping between each submitted input field and the corresponding component property. When the input data is submitted, the data handler uses the name-space manager to find the component property for each submitted input field and uses the component manager to convert the data to the correct type before calling the appropriate component method to set the property value.

FP-1 is a protein that is specifically expressed in the follicular papilla of the hair follicle. The nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of FP-1, as well as antibodies that specifically bind FP-1 are provided. In addition, methods of isolating follicular papilla cells and methods of modulating hair growth are also disclosed.

An improved hot-fill type container that has particular utility for use with the nitrogen dosing hot-fill process includes a finish portion, a main body portion and a base portion having a pushup area and a chime that is situated about the pushup area for supporting the container when a horizontal surface. The container advantageously includes a reinforced heel portion in the area between the main body portion and the chime for protecting the container against deformation that could otherwise be caused by the positive pressurization of the nitrogen dosing process.
