Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A network device, such as a base station, may transmit a set of reference symbols to a user equipment (UE). Each set of reference symbols may include two (or more) beamformed signals. The network device may receive, based on the set of reference symbols, a measurement report from the UE. The measurement report may include a co-phasing indicator associated with the set of reference symbols. The network device may identify, based at least in part on the measurement report, an antenna port precoder configuration to use for communicating with the UE.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for operating a user equipment (UE) are provided. The apparatus determines a first coarse set of beamforming paths between the UE and a first millimeter wave base station (mmW-BS), receives on a first set of narrow beamforming paths close to a first beamforming path within the first coarse set of beamforming paths, requests the first mmW-BS to transmit on a second set of narrow beamforming paths close to a second beamforming path within the first coarse set of beamforming paths when a signal quality of the first beamforming path and the first set of narrow beamforming paths are less than a first threshold, and communicates through one of the second beamforming path or a path within the second set of narrow beamforming paths.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for operating a user equipment (UE) are provided. The apparatus receives beamforming capability information indicating one of at least a digital, analog, or hybrid beamforming capability, the beamforming capability associated with a millimeter wave base station (mmW-BS). Based on the beamforming capability information, the apparatus scans N transmit beams from the mmW-BS for each of M receive beam directions of the UE, determines one or more preferred scanned beams from among the N transmit beams, and establishes a wireless communication link with the mmW-BS based on the preferred one or more scanned beams.

Abstract: A wireless device, such as a base station, may be configured to determine a set of silent symbols for beam calibration measurements by a User Equipment (UE) for full duplex communication. The wireless device may transmit, to the UE, an indication of the set of silent symbols for the beam calibration measurements by the UE. The wireless device may refrain from transmitting during the set of silent symbols. A wireless device, such as a UE, may receive an indication of a set of silent symbols for a beam calibration measurement by the UE for full duplex communication with a base station. The wireless device may perform beam calibration measurements for beam candidates.

Abstract: Systems and methods for wireless communication with devices equipped with multiple antenna panels are provided. A UE may transmit UE assistance information (UAI) to a wireless communication device associated with other network information such as rank indicator (RI). The UAI may include an indication of a quantity of antenna panels in use, a relative power consumption indicator, and/or a thermal overhead indicator. This information may be used by the wireless communication device to determine a network configuration which reduces the power consumption and/or thermal overhead of the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured with a set of beamforming weights, each beamforming weight corresponding to a transmit beam of a set of transmit beams that may each include a same primary lobe and one or more different side lobes. The UE may then perform a beam training procedure to determine which transmit beams cause more or less interference at one or more nearby UEs. The UE may transmit signals using one or more of the transmit beams, and the nearby UEs may determine which transmit beams and corresponding beamforming weights cause more or less interference. The nearby UEs may then indicate those transmit beams or beamforming weights that cause more or less interference via different options.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications systems, a base station may transmit a set of reference signals spanning a channel to a user equipment (UE), where each of the reference signals is associated with one of a set of transmit beams. The UE may measure a signal quality of each of the set of reference signals. In some cases, each measured signal quality may correspond to one of a set of subbands of the channel and one of the set of transmit beams. The UE may then transmit an indication of at least one signal quality associated with one of the set of subbands and one of the set of transmit beams. In some cases, the UE may indicate the at least one signal quality according to a configuration that may be indicated by the base station or selected by the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A codebook adaptation may be performed for a flexible user equipment (UEs) to determine a codebook for a physical configuration of the UE. For example, if the UE determines that the physical configuration does not correspond to a pre-loaded codebook in its memory, the UE may provide information about the physical configuration to a base station to determine a corresponding codebook. Additionally, the UE may request that the base station provide channel information to assist with the codebook determination. In some cases, this request may indicate for the base station to allocate a specific number of channel state information reference signal symbols that the UE can use for the codebook determination. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may generate the codebook internally and then signal to the base station a request for a beam refinement procedure with the generated codebook.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some systems, a first device may calculate hybrid beamforming parameters for a second device. The first device may calculate the hybrid beamforming parameters based on an estimation of channel information associated with at least a portion of a communication link at the second device via a machine learning model. Inputs to the machine learning model may include measured model parameters based on measurements performed by one or more other devices. The first device may transmit a message to the second device to indicate the hybrid beamforming parameters, which may include an input for a beam refinement process. The second device may perform the beam refinement process based on the hybrid beamforming parameters to identify one or more beams. The first and second devices may communicate using the one or more beams based on the beam refinement process.

Abstract: A first wireless communication device, such as a base station, may include separate transmit and receive antenna arrays. The separation between the transmit and receive antenna arrays may cause a direction of a transmit beam formed at the transmit antenna array to be different from a direction of a receive beam formed at the receive antenna array. The transmit and receive beams may be formed for communication with a second wireless communication device, such as a user equipment (UE). The described aspects enable the first wireless communication device to monitor a difference between a first direction of the transmit beam and a second direction of the receive beam. The first wireless communication device may transmit an indication of a beam correspondence failure to the second wireless communication device when the difference between the first and second directions is greater than or equal to a beam correspondence threshold.
