Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A network device, such as a base station, may transmit a request message to a user equipment (UE). The request message may include a request for the UE to transmit a set of sounding reference signals (SRSs). The set of SRSs may include two (or more) beamformed signals. The network device may receive the set of SRSs according to the request message. The network device may identify, based on a co-phasing parameter associated with the two (or more) beamformed signals, an antenna port precoder configuration to use for communicating with the UE.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium are provided that enable a base station to stop a beam refinement procedure prior to a completion of the beam refinement procedure. A UE receives a signal over a plurality of beams from a base station and transmits an indication to the base station in a beam refinement procedure during a hierarchical beamforming process. The indication may comprise at least one of a beam switching capability of the UE, mobility information for the UE, Doppler estimate information for the UE, or a plurality of training signals on a selected beam.

Abstract: A beam selection method and apparatus suitable for millimeter wave (mmW) communication systems is disclosed. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) may perform a beam sweep procedure to identify suitable downlink beams candidates from one or more gNBs. The UE may generate a beam list by selecting some of the downlink beams for active tracking. When beams on the beam list become unavailable, the UE may compare the number of available beams on the beam list with a threshold value. If the number of available beams falls below the threshold, the UE may perform another beam sweep procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify an indication of an amount of remaining energy for the UE. In some cases, the UE may identify an indication of a temperature of the UE. In some cases, the UE may determine a constraint indicator based on the amount of remaining energy for the UE or the temperature of the UE. The UE may then transmit the constraint indicator to a base station via physical layer signaling. According to another embodiment, the UE may determine an alternative transmission mode based on the amount of remaining energy for the UE or the temperature of the UE. The UE may then transmit an indicator of the alternative transmission mode to the base station via physical layer signaling.

Abstract: Wireless communications systems and methods related to mitigating maximum permissible exposure (MPE) constraints based on user equipment (UE) feedback are provided. A first wireless communication device transmits, to a second wireless communication device, a plurality of reports, each report indicating an allowable transmission power level at the first wireless communication device satisfying an MPE parameter. The first wireless communication device receives, from the second wireless communication device, a first configuration based on an MPE profile associated with the first wireless communication device in response to the plurality of reports. The first wireless communication device transmits, to the second wireless communication device, a first communication signal over a first beam based on the first configuration.

The UE may identify a relative channel characteristic value between each transmit beam in the first set of transmit beams and each transmit beam in the second set of transmit beams. The UE may transmit a message that identifies the beams in the first and second set of transmit beams, the identified receive beam from the first set of receive beams for each beam in the first set of transmit beams, and the relative channel characteristic value.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A method of wireless communication at a first wireless device includes identifying a template mapping of a plurality of ports to a first plurality of frequency subcarriers and a first plurality of time periods of a template time-frequency resource grid; mapping a plurality of resource elements of an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) time-frequency resource grid to the plurality of ports based at least in part on the template mapping; receiving a reference signal from a second wireless device, on a subset of the plurality of ports, based at least in part on the mapping; and decoding the reference signal from a subset of the plurality of resource elements based at least in part on the mapping. In some cases, each port of the plurality of ports is associated with a corresponding radio frequency (RF) chain.
