Abstract: The described aspects include methods and apparatus for activating a transmitter to communicate in a wireless network. A small cell can determine to activate the transmitter to serve user equipment (UE) in a wireless network. The small cell can then broadcast a portion of a set of broadcast signals in a radio frame and broadcast a remaining portion of the set of broadcast signals along with the portion of the set of broadcast signals in a subsequent radio frame. By refraining from immediately broadcasting all broadcast signals, the small cell can mitigate interference to other small cells. In addition, a UE can determine whether to generate random access channel (RACH) sequences for proximity determination or uplink timing synchronization based on parameters received in a RACH order. Moreover, a small cell with an active transmitter can decode discovery signals from a device to facilitate handover determination.

Abstract: A first method for wireless communications may comprise determining sizes of payloads of user equipment (UEs), determining whether to multiplex the payloads of the UEs based on the sizes of the payloads, and allocating codes or cyclic shifts to the UEs to transmit the payloads on a single interlace of resources. A second method for wireless communications may comprise determining a first code or a first cyclic shift used for a first transmission using an interlace of resources, and allocating second codes or second cyclic shifts to UEs for a second transmission, where the second transmission may be multiplexed with the first transmission on the interlace of resources. A third method for wireless communications may comprise allocating a first interlace of resources for a first transmission for occupying an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, and allocating a second interlace of resources, occupied by a base station, for a second transmission.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to techniques for single-frequency network (SFN) operation for machine-type communications (MTC) coverage enhancements. A method is provided for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE). The method generally includes detecting a synchronization signal transmitted from at least one of a plurality of transmission points, wherein each of the plurality of transmission points transmits a synchronization signal at a different offset time relative to a subframe boundary in a synchronized network, determining a subframe occurring a fixed time after detecting the synchronization signal to monitor for system information transmitted from at least one of the plurality of transmission points, and monitoring for a system information block during the determined subframe.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that may perform dual stage channel interleaving in which code blocks are interleaved at the code block level and at a symbol level. The interleaved code block data may provide time diversity for the code block data, and the interleaved symbol data may provide frequency diversity for the code block data, thus helping to mitigate narrowband and/or bursty interference. The interleaving within the code block and interleaving within the symbols, in some examples, may allow pipelined implementation of decoding of the code blocks at the receiver, for faster processing. In some cases, systematic data and parity data may be interleaved within the code block data to provide a uniform distribution of the systematic data in time within the code block.

Abstract: Design of channel usage beacon signals (CUBS) in cooperative networks is disclosed. After detecting a clear channel assessment (CCA), a transmitter selects a configuration of a CUBS associated with the transmitter based on the CCA opportunity assigned to the network. The configuration of the CUBS associated with the transmitter may include a set of frequency subcarriers for CUBS transmissions. The transmitter transmits the CUBS according to transmission characteristics based on the CCA opportunity. In additional aspects, randomization may be introduced into the frequency subcarrier allocations of CUBS configurations where the transmitter receives assignment of virtual frequency subcarriers for CUBS transmissions and maps the virtual subcarrier to physical frequency subcarriers for CUBS transmission. Additional aspects allow for pattern offset values to be determined independently from the transmitter cell identifier. In such aspects, the assigned pattern offsets may be cell identifier-independent, while others may be cell identifier-dependent.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. In one method, a control format indicator value for a frame may be received over a physical carrier in a shared spectrum. Based on the control format indicator value, a number of subframes of the frame to be used by a base station for downlink transmissions over the physical carrier may be determined. The control format indicator value may indicate an end of transmission, if data is to be transmitted during the frame, a number of subframes to be used for transmission, or whether the current subframe is the final subframe used for transmission. In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may use the control format indicator value to determine a sleep schedule. Further, ACK/NACK transmissions by a UE may be scheduled based on the control format indicator value.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for paging comprise receiving data destined for a UE. The methods and apparatus further comprise determining a short identity for the UE relative to a longer global user equipment identity and identifying a MIB transmission based on a short identity. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise activating a bit within a slot of the MIB transmission to indicate that the user equipment listen for a page in order to receive the data and broadcasting the MIB. In other aspects, methods and apparatus for receiving a page comprise entering an idle state while camped on a cell. The methods and apparatus further comprise waking up from the idle state to monitor a slot of a MIB for a paging indication. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise recognizing the paging indication in the monitored slot of the MIB, determining a paging window based on correlation information in a SIB and waking up to listen for a page during the paging window.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A first method includes receiving a transmission including a paging group indicator and an indication of a time window. The transmission may be received at a user equipment (UE) over an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band. The first method may also include monitoring, based on the paging group indicator, the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during the time window to receive an asynchronous paging message from a base station. A second method includes transmitting the transmission over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band; performing a number of clear channel assessments (CCAs) on the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during the time window; and transmitting the paging message over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band at a transmission time during the time window. The transmission time may be based on a result of at least one of the CCAs.
