Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provided techniques that for wireless communications by a base station (BS). An exemplary method, performed by a base station, generally includes identifying an operating state of a user equipment that communicates with the BS in at least one narrowband region, determining, based on the operating state, one or more operating parameters of a configurable measurement procedure whereby the user equipment (UE) tunes away from the narrowband region to measure signals transmitted from other BSs, and configuring the UE to perform the measurement procedure in accordance with the determined operating parameters.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may transmit uplink (UL) messages in unlicensed spectrum with a reduced UL timing delay. The UL timing delay may be reduced by using a shortened transmission time interval (TTI) (e.g., a TTI that is reduced in duration relative to other TTIs in the system or in a legacy system) or by reducing the number of TTIs between a grant and the corresponding UL message. The reduced UL timing delay may decrease the likelihood that the UE will wait for a subsequent transmit opportunity (TxOp) to transmit the UL message. In some cases, the reduced UL timing delay corresponds to a reduced hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processing delay. In some cases, a time difference (e.g., measured in TTIs) between a measurement reference TTI a corresponding channel state information (CSI) report may also be reduced.

The method generally includes determining whether a downlink channel is present in a subframe; and causing the UE to enter a low power mode for a duration based on a determination that the downlink channel is not present in the subframe.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the disclosure relate to techniques and apparatus for improving random access for SRS switching in a wireless network. Prior to transmitting a SRS, a UE may interrupt communication on a first carrier to switch from the first carrier to a second carrier to transmit a PRACH. To reduce interruption to the first carrier, the UE may use the beginning symbol(s) of a UpPTS on the second carrier to transmit the PRACH. In addition, to reduce interruption to the first carrier, the UE may monitor for another PDCCH order before transmitting another PRACH. Further, aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for jointly triggering SRS transmissions and performing power control for SRS transmissions. A BS may trigger SRS transmissions from multiple UEs, trigger SRS transmissions from multiple carriers from the same UE at the same time and/or perform power control separately for each carrier.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques that may be applied in systems comprising machine type communication (MTC) user equipments (UEs). An exemplary method performed by a base station comprises using a first transport block size (TBS) table to communicate with a first type of user equipment (UE), using a second TBS table to communicate with a second type of UE, wherein the first type of UE supports a reduced peak data rate relative to the second type of UE, signaling information to the first type of UE for use in determining a TBS from the first TBS table, and communicating with the first type of UE, with one or more transmissions having a payload with a number of bits determined based on a TBS value from the first TBS table selected based, at least in part, on the signaled information.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for a user equipment (UE) to set uplink power control for a long uplink burst and a short uplink burst. The UE receives uplink power control information including a first set of power control parameters for a long uplink burst and a second set of power control parameters for a short uplink burst with the sets of power control parameters being different from each other. The UE configures uplink power control for the long uplink burst based at least on the first set of power control parameters and the short uplink burst based at least on the second set of power control parameters. The UE sends at least one of a long uplink burst and a short uplink burst based on the corresponding uplink power control and sends at least one uplink power-headroom report for the long uplink burst and short uplink burst.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for power control in New Radio (NR) systems are described. In one example, a user equipment (UE) may determine a transmit power for a control channel based on an effective code rate of control information to be transmitted in the control channel. In another example, the UE may be configured to use a different transmit power for repeated transmissions of control information in a control channel. In yet another example, the UE may be configured to determine a transmit power for a transmission in a time interval or scale a transmission in a time interval based on a priority of the transmission relative to other transmissions scheduled in the time interval. In yet another example, the UE may be configured to determine respective transmit powers for uplink transmissions multiplexed differently using different open-loop parameters.
