Abstract: Location services for a user equipment (UE) are supported with a Network Exposure Function (NEF) serving as a focal point for any location request. An entity that needs the location of the UE sends a location request to the NEF in the home PLMN or Visited PLMN for the UE. The location request includes, e.g., a type of location request, a required location accuracy, a required response time or some combination of these. The NEF determines whether to use a Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC) or a serving Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) for the UE to obtain the UE location based on the content of the location request and sends the location request to the GMLC or serving AMF accordingly. Additionally, if the serving AMF is used, a serving base station may obtain the UE location and send the UE location to the serving AMF.

Abstract: A reference signal may provide for enhanced bandwidth utilization to enable highly accurate position determination with relatively low bandwidth. For a given allocated bandwidth, a reference signal may use of only a portion of the allocated bandwidth by using plurality of sub-bands. In some cases, the sub-bands may be near the edges of the allocated band to maximize Gabor bandwidth.

Abstract: Many mobile devices and mobile networks utilize orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to calculate position information of mobile devices within the network. However, the Doppler Effect and other noise or obstructions can cause OFDM signals to become entangled, particularly when the mobile device is moving, making the calculated position information inaccurate. Described herein are systems and methods for disentangling the OFDM signals by calculating a symbol length for the signals that is longer than the minimum symbol length, which is used in traditional OFDM. Selecting a longer symbol length reduces the Doppler Effect and other noise on the signals, making positioning calculations more accurate.

In certain embodiments, control of privacy may be enabled by designating by a server certain sources of crowdsourcing such as WiFi or Bluetooth® APs as being tentative. A mobile device that encounters a source designated as tentative may query a server for information concerning permitted and/or not permitted types of crowdsourcing for the source. The server may return an indication of the permitted level of crowdsourcing for the source which the mobile device may then use to perform, or refrain from performing, crowdsourcing.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for broadcasting positioning assistance data (PAD) to subscriber devices in a wireless network. In one aspect, a location server may encode and optionally cipher PAD and transfer the encoded and optionally ciphered PAD to a base station for broadcast in a system information block (SIB) in at least one cell. In an aspect, the PAD may be segmented by the location server or by the base station with each PAD segment broadcast in a separate SIB. Cipher key information for ciphered PAD may be transferred by the location server to a network node and provided to a subscriber device using a mobility management procedure. A subscriber device may receive, optionally decipher and decode PAD in SIBs broadcast by a base station and may use the PAD to assist location of the subscriber device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. A wireless device such as an in-vehicle system (IVS) may transmit an emergency call (eCall) message to a third party eCall server using a communication session which may be packet based or circuit based. The eCall message may include session information and telematics data. The third party eCall server may relay the session information and telematics data to a public safety answering point (PSAP). For example, the third party eCall server may generate an automatic text-to-speech message that is transmitted to the PSAP over a public communications network. In some cases, the third party eCall server may transmit a response to the wireless device including metadata based on the telematics data transmitted in the eCall message. The eCall message may also include a call-back number, and the PSAP may contact the wireless device directly using the call-back number.
