Abstract: Methods and systems for performing computer-assisted image-guided surgery, including robotically-assisted surgery. A method of displaying image data includes displaying image data of a patient on a handheld display device, tracking the handheld display device using a motion tracking system, and modifying the image data displayed in response to changes in the position and orientation of the handheld display device. Further embodiments include a sterile case for a handheld display device, display devices on a robotic arm, and methods and systems for performing image-guided surgery using multiple reference marker devices fixed to a patient.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing support during an orienting of a medical object according to a target positioning. A light guidance device is configured to emit a predefined light distribution. The reflector element is configured to be fixedly mounted in a defined arrangement on the medical object or wherein the reflector element is integrated into the medical object in the defined arrangement. The reflector element is configured to reflect at least a part of the light distribution in a defined manner relative to the medical object when illuminated by the light distribution. The projection surface has a marker. The projection surface and the light guidance device are arranged in a defined positional relationship with respect to one another. The projection surface is illuminated by the reflected part of the light distribution. The reflected part of the light distribution illuminates the marker precisely when the medical object is oriented according to the target positioning.

Abstract: A system includes a controller configured to be coupled to an input control and a robotic arm, the robotic arm being configured to hold and position an instrument. The controller is configured to receive a first command from the input control to manipulate the instrument; determine, when there is an orientation misalignment between an orientation of the input control in an eye coordinate frame and an orientation of a distal portion of the instrument in a camera coordinate frame, a desired orientation of the distal portion, the desired orientation for causing the distal portion to rotate in a same manner about an axis defined with respect to the distal portion as the input control rotates about a corresponding axis defined with respect to the input control; and transmit a second command to the robotic arm to cause the instrument to be oriented according to the desired orientation of the instrument.

The test fixture includes a control system in communication with the first, second, and third actuators for controlling the movement of the base plate along the first axis and the movement of the compression plate along the second and third axes.

Abstract: Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for docking medical instruments. For example, a medical system can include an instrument drive mechanism having a drive output that rotates and engages a corresponding drive input on a robotic medical instrument, a motor configured to rotate the drive output, and a torque sensor configured to measure torque imparted on the drive output. The robotic medical instrument can include a pre-tensioned pull wire actuated by the drive input. The system can activate the motor associated with the drive output to rotate the drive output in response to a torque signal from the torque sensor associated with the drive output in order to align the drive output with the drive input.

Abstract: A surgical drill for drilling a hole in a workpiece includes a housing, a probe moveably mounted to the housing, and a transducer assembly. The transducer assembly includes a gear coupled to the probe and at least two rotational sensor devices coupled to the gear to determine an amount of movement of a probe relative to a housing to determine a bore depth of the hole. The gear has a reference point having an angular path of rotation about a gear axis subdivided into separate first and second arcuate regions. A first sensor device is configured to detect a rotational position of the reference point in the first arcuate region, and a second sensor device is configured to detect a rotational position of the reference point in at least the second arcuate region, with the first sensor device incapable of detecting the reference point in the second arcuate region.

The expanded states of the distal and proximal permeable shells may also define a toroidal cavity through which an elongate support member extends.

Abstract: A surgical stapler having an end effector, a firing drive electric motor, and a control circuit is disclosed. The firing drive electric motor is configured to actuate a staple firing stroke of the end effector. The control circuit can be configured to provide a pulse width modulated (PWM) electrical signal to the firing drive electric motor and adjust a duty cycle of the PWM electrical signal based at least in part on a speed of the staple firing stroke. The control circuit can further be configured to provide a pulse width modulated (PWM) electrical signal to the firing drive electric motor, adjust a duty cycle of the PWM electrical signal based at least in part on a target speed of a staple firing stroke, and lower the target speed in response to the duty cycle exceeding a safety threshold value.
