    摘要: An apparatus for the transfer or conveyance of a slurry and the simultaneous densification thereof through the intermediary of vacuum pumping. Specifically, disclosed is an apparatus for the vacuum pumping of a slurry, particularly a zinc-containing slurry utilized in the preparation of zinc anodes for alkaline batteries, which facilitates the transfer of the slurry and the concurrent densification thereof in conjunction with the elimination of any gas bubbles which are entrapped in the slurry. Also disclosed is a method of transferring and simultaneously densifying a slurry while eliminating entrapped gas bubbles therefrom through the intermediary of a vacuum pumping process utilizing the disclosed apparatus.

    摘要: A gel form negative electrode of an alkaline battery is produced without mercury and enables uniform dispersion of zinc or zinc alloy powder and an effective metal which can be one or more of an oxide or hydroxide of indium, lead, gallium, bismuth. The zinc or zinc alloy powder and the effective metal are drymixed in advance of mixing with a gel form alkaline electrolyte. In order to obtain satisfactorily high vibration strength and impact resistance, fiber material can be added to the gel form negative electrode. The fiber material may be selected among rayon, vinylon, acryl, vinyon, polyamide, polypropylene, polyethylene, mercerized pulp, linter pulp.

    摘要: A consumable anode of a reactive metal such as lithium is provided as a layer on a flexible, conductive substrate. The anode is preferably in the form of an elongated tape wound on a reel. The anode tape is fed from the reel into and through an elongated electrolyte reaction chamber formed between the surface of the anode tape and an opposed cathode. The ends of the compartment contain seals for retaining electrolyte between the electrodes. The tape is rewound on a driven take up reel.

    摘要: An anode assembly for a lithium-halogen cell including halogen-containing cathode material, i.e. depolarizer, such as an iodine-organic complex wherein the anode comprises an electrical conductor sandwiched between a pair of lithium plates defining substantially oppositely directed lithium surfaces terminating in a peripheral lithium edge and characterized by a major portion of the length of the peripheral edge being exposed to the cathode material. This greatly increases the available internal volume of the cell for cathode material which, in turn, increases the theoretical ampere-hour rating of the cell. At least one and preferably both oppositely directed lithium surfaces have formations such as ribs or the equivalent which increases the surface area thereof, and the formations terminate a short distance from the edge to form a marginal type, peripheral border and highly effective seal therearound. The inner surfaces of the lithium plates can include co-operating formations near the peripheral edge shaped to expose new surfaces of the lithium plates to each other to form or enhance the bond therebetween. The anode assembly is formed using mold sections of a polyolefin material such as a high density polyethylene or equivalent material and having tapered recesses to provide effective separation of the anode from the mold without any need for parting sheets.
