Abstract:
A structure of a line lighting device permits a rod-like light guide to be attached to a case without rubbing against the case. An end portion of the rod-like light guide provided with a pin is inserted into an opening in a case main body and pushed down, thus making the pin engage with a recess in the case main body. At this time, a distal end of the rod-like light guide is inserted, to some extent, into an opening in a light emitting unit fixing portion. Subsequently, the rod-like light guide is pushed down and pivoted around the pin so as to be completely contained within the case main body. In this state, the distal end of the rod-like light guide is fitted into the opening and the end face of the rod-like light guide is flush with the outer side face of the light emitting unit fixing portion.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus of the present invention includes a first light source, a first light guide, a second light source, a second light guide, light receiving elements and a lens unit. The first light source emits first light. The first light guide directs the first light from the first light source toward an image-carrying object as first linear light extending in a primary scanning direction. The second light source emits second light of a wavelength different from that of the first light. The second light guide directs the second light from the second light source toward the image-carrying object as second linear light extending in the primary scanning direction. The light receiving elements are arranged in the primary scanning direction. The first and second linear lights are reflected by the image-carrying object, and the reflected lights are guided by the lens unit toward the light receiving elements.
Abstract:
A rod-shaped light guide includes an end face to which light is incident, a bottom plane on which a scattering pattern to scatter light incident to the end face is formed, and a light emitting portion located to be opposite to the bottom plane and emitting light outside. The light emitting portion is formed as a first plane and a second plane connected to each other. The first plane is formed to be smaller than the second plane so that the cross section thereof perpendicular to the longitudinal direction is asymmetrical.
Abstract:
In an illumination device, a light guide is adapted to emit the light from a face thereof and is provided with an area, on a face opposite to the light emitting face, for diffusing and/or reflecting the light introduced into the light guide from an end face thereof or is provided with uneven light emitting characteristics along the longitudinal direction of the light guide, and the center of the light source positioned at the end of the light guide is placed at a position aberrated from the normal line to the area, whereby attained are compactness, a low cost, a low electric power consumption, a high efficiency of utilization of the light emitted by the light source, and excellent and uniform illumination characteristics. An image reading device and an information processing apparatus can also be equipped with the above-mentioned illumination device.

A multi-lightguide document imaging device is proposed for scanning a document transported atop it. The device includes: a line image sensor module having a top sensing area and built-in circuitry for converting an incident line image into video signal output. an intervening rod lens for focusing line image lights from the document onto the sensing area. a number of lightguides lightguide-j (j=1, 2, . . . , N) disposed below the document where each lightguide-j has its own built-in light sources, a transverse cross section spaced at a distance SPCj from the scan line and oriented angularly along a θ-coordinate so as to project a line-illumination aiming at the scan line. an imager frame having a base for holding the line image sensor module, a multi-element support for holding the rod lens plus the lightguides and a scan line backing portion for backing the document.
Abstract:
An illuminator includes a light guide having a circular cross-section, a scatterer that is provided on a portion of the circumference of the circular cross-section and that radiates scattering light toward the inside of the light guide, and a condensing lens that condenses light emitted from the light guide and transforms the light into a linear beam, a planar beam. or a point-like beam. In the illuminator light from the light source is effectively utilized, and the light can efficiently illuminate the required illumination area. In addition, an image reader apparatus can perform high-speed reading using such an illuminator.
Abstract:
A light guide emits lights incident on an end face from an emitting face extending longitudinally of the guide, while having the lights reflected by its internal face. A sectional shape of the guide in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of this light guide has two opposite parabolas, a line segment connecting the focal points of the two opposite parabolas, and a line segment (bottom face) corresponding to the emitting face. A scattering pattern consisting of white ink is formed on the line segment (bottom face) connecting the focal points. With this guide, the face of a document is to be efficiently illuminated by conversely utilizing the characteristic of the compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) to convert scattered lights extending over a full angle from a limited area into radiant lights confined to a prescribed emission angle and thereby minimizing the expansion of lights.
