Abstract:
A developing unit supplies toner from a developing roller to an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier, and creates a visual image. A forced consumption unit causes, when a proportion of number of pixels used for forming the electrostatic latent image for a maximum image effective-width is equal to or less than a predetermined value, a forced consumption of toner by an amount corresponding to a difference between a toner amount corresponding to the number of pixels and a predetermined toner consumption amount. The forced consumption unit adds toner of an amount used in the forced consumption to an amount of toner to be supplied in a next imaging process.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes toner image forming devices for forming toner images of a plurality of mutually different colors, a toner image carrying member for carrying thereon the toner images of the plurality of colors to be transferred onto a recording medium at one time, an adhesion amount detection device for detecting a toner adhesion amount of each of the toner images, and a failure determination device for determining the presence or absence of a sign of failure in the toner image forming devices. The failure determination device determines the presence or absence of the sign of failure in one of the toner image forming devices on the basis of information based on adhesion amount detection results obtained through detection by the adhesion amount detection device of toner adhesion amounts of toner images formed on the toner image carrying member by the other toner image forming devices.
Abstract:
A fuser system of a xerographic device provides a fuser member, and a pressure member supported for pressure engagement with the fuser member. The pressure member includes an inner layer and an outer layer. The inner layer is variably pressurized for controlled change of the effective hardness of the outer layer. Controlling the effective hardness of the outer layer can be in response to the media paper weight and/or image content being processed though the xerographic device.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus capable of adequately adjusting the amount of a low friction agent to be applied to the surface of a photoconductive element in accordance with image quality is disclosed. After preselected initialization, an electrophotographic image forming section records a usual image or a particular image for evaluation on a paper. A toner image formed on the photoconductive element and a toner image transferred from the element to a paper are read. Image data representative of such toner images and the initial image data are compared to see if the read images are defective or not. The low friction agent is applied to the photoconductive element in an amount controlled on the basis of the result of the decision.
Abstract:
A method of, and apparatus for, applying charge to a plastic, electrically conductive sheet having an image formed thereon by a photocopier, to neutralize the buildup of electrostatic charge on the plastic sheet. The amount of charge applied to the plastic sheet, to prevent electrostatic adhesion, is determined as a function of the amount of toner forming the image on the plastic sheet. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the amount of toner forming the image is determined as a function of the average transparency of the plastic sheet.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit includes a photosensitive member; a charging unit configured to uniformly charge the photosensitive member; an exposure unit configured to form an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member by scanning the charged photosensitive member with laser light; and a developing device configured to develop the electrostatic latent image to form an image on the photosensitive member, a reading unit configured to read a test image, which is formed by the image forming unit, for detecting image density of the image, and a controller configured to: control the image forming unit to form the test image; detect periodic fluctuation of the image density based on a detection result of the test image which is acquired by controlling the reading unit to read the test image; and correct an image forming condition to suppress the detected fluctuation.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus capable of controlling density of an output image with high accuracy regardless of variation of internal temperature. A controller controls an image forming unit to form a measurement image, controls a light receiving unit to receive reflected light from the measurement image, controls a conversion unit to convert an output value of the light receiving unit, and controls an image formation condition based on a value that is obtained by converting the output value. An adjustment unit controls the light receiving unit to receive reflected light from an image bearing member, and adjusts the emission light amount of an emission unit based on the reflected light from the image bearing member. A selection unit selects a conversion condition from among conversion conditions based on a reference temperature that is detected when the adjustment unit adjusts the emission light amount and a current temperature.

A method of operating a printing system includes determining whether ghosting is expected on a photoreceptor and applying power to a laser applied to the photoreceptor based on whether the ghosting is expected.
Abstract:
A sheet interval, serving as the distance between conveyed recording materials, is properly controlled based on a kind of a recording material and any one of a printing ratio, an adhesion amount of toner, and the presence or absence of graphic data, thus allowing printing at throughput suitable for, for example, the kind of the recording material and the printing ratio without changing an image forming condition such that image quality does not vary.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus having a fixing unit fixing a developer image formed based on image data received onto a medium includes a target fixing temperature determination unit, a fixable temperature range computing unit, and a fixing temperature control unit. The target fixing temperature determination unit determines fixing temperature arranged based on the medium as target fixing temperature. The fixable temperature range computing unit computes a fixing temperature range fixable the developer image on the medium by using medium information of the medium while using the target fixing temperature as reference temperature. The fixing temperature control unit controls the fixing unit based on the fixable temperature range computed by the fixable temperature range computing unit.
