Abstract:
Methods and devices are provided for profiling a beam of light that includes a wavelength λ. The beam of light is received. Secondary light is generated at a wavelength λ′ different from wavelength λ by fluorescing a material with the received beam of light. The secondary light is separated from the received beam of light. The separated secondary light is optically directed to a sensor.

Abstract:
A motorized coffin lid device for remotely opening a lid of the casket includes a coffin having a bottom wall and a peripheral wall that is attached to and extends upwardly from the bottom wall to define an interior space. The peripheral wall has an upper edge to define an opening into the interior space. A lid is pivotably coupled to the upper edge to selectively open and close the opening. A motor is coupled to the coffin and positioned in the interior space. A lift mechanism is coupled to the motor. The motor actuates the lift mechanism to pivot the lid and to selectively open and close the opening. A power source is electrically coupled to the motor.
Abstract:
A method and system for managing field convertible operator replaceable components associated with a rendering device. A file that defines a set of operator replaceable components can be created and remotely installed on the device. The replaceable components associated with the device can be easily changed from a designation as a customer service engineer replacement component to an operator replacement component and vice versa. A determination that an operator is allowed to replace the component can be made based on a training level provided to the operator, the component availability, a usage pattern, and/or a security level. Such an approach enables the operator to perform the majority of maintenance on the device without requiring the services of a field engineer.
Abstract:
A pilot transmission scheme is presented where during a first OFDM symbol period a first pilot sequence is transmitted over a first multiple sub-carriers on a first group of antennas. During a second OFDM symbol period, a second pilot sequence is transmitted over a second multiple sub-carriers on a second group of antennas. The first and the second groups of antennas only transmit one pilot sequence every subframe of M OFDM symbol periods.
Abstract:
Small quantities of cigarettes may be manufactured in a substantially simultaneous fashion while maintaining consistent quality between the cigarettes using the disclosed apparatus and methods. The apparatus and method include features for simultaneously inserting charges of tobacco into pre-formed tubular cigarette wrappers. In another aspect, a system enables making cigarettes from pre-formed tubular cigarette wrappers and pre-packaged charges of tobacco.
Abstract:
A photocathode as a source of electron beams, having a substrate of optically transmissive diamond and a photoemitter. A photocathode with a single emitting region provides a single electron beam; a photocathode with multiple emitting regions provides multiple electron beams. The photoemitter is positioned on the side of the diamond substrate opposite the surface on which the illumination is incident, and has an irradiation region at the contact with the optically transmissive diamond, and an emission region opposite the irradiation region, these regions being defined by the path of the illumination. The diamond substrate at the irradiation region/emission region interface conducts heat away from this focused region of illumination on the photocathode. Alternately, a diamond film is used for heat conduction, while another material is used as a substrate to provide structural support. The thermal conductivity of diamond is at least three orders of magnitude greater than that of fused silica, which is an alternative substrate material for photocathodes. This allows for efficient conduction of heat away from the irradiation region/emission region interface, and therefore allows higher currents to be achieved from the photocathode. This, in turn, permits higher throughput rates in applications including electron beam lithography.
Abstract:
An improved laser pattern generation apparatus. The improved pattern generation apparatus of the present invention uses a laser beam to expose a radiant sensitive film on the workpiece to print circuit patterns on a substrate. The laser beam is aligned using a beam steering means. The laser beam is split into 32 beams to create a brush. The brush scans the workpiece through use of a rotating polygonal mirror. Each beam of the brush may have one of seventeen intensity values. The beams are modulated by an Acousto-Optical Modulator. Signals provided to the Acousto-Optical Modulator define the pattern to be generated. These signals are created by a rasterizer. Increased print speed is accomplished through the use of a wider brush and a print strategy that eliminates physical stage passes.
