Abstract:
A molding machine having a mold including upper and lower mold plates, an upper heat transfer platen connected to the upper mold plate, and a lower heat transfer platen connected to the lower mold plate. Each mold plate contains mold cavities. When the mold plates are aligned and abutted, mold locations from the upper and lower mold plates cooperate to form mold volumes. Each of the heat transfer platens contain two series of independent channels for supplying heat transfer media to control the temperature of the material being molded. Each series of channels includes feeder channels and transverse channels. All of the transverse channels of a heat transfer platen are substantially coplanar and parallel. A plurality of adapters supplies heat transfer media to the channels. A ram is connected to one of the heat transfer platens. A control system controls movement of the ram. A protection device continuously monitors the operation of the molding machine. The protection device monitors the movement and position of the ram and the pressure exerted by the ram. The control system contains a plurality of triggers to ensure the molding machine is operated under predetermined conditions.

An arrangement for transporting microtitration plates in an automatic handling machine is disclosed comprising at least one linear-transport device on which a carriage, which has at least one place of deposit for a microtitration plate, is transported in a straight line, under automatic control, between two limit positions. A lifting device is included with vertically displaceable bolts by which the microtitration plates can be lifted off or deposited on the carriage. At least one rotary device is also included in which a rotary element which has at least one resting place for a microtitration plate can be moved, under automatic control, about a fixed rotation shaft. The rotary device is designed and arranged in such a way with respect to the linear-transport device that the resting place can be rotated between the place of deposit and the microtitration plate which has been lifted and is resting on the bolts, so that the surface centers of gravity of the place of deposit of the resting place and of the microtitration plate lie on a line which is parallel to the bolts.
Abstract:
Multi-channel metering apparatus with automatic calibration, where the individual dispensing channels 1, the micro-valves 4 of which are connected with the outlets of a distributor 8, 13 or 15 whose inlet is filled with fluid by a vessel 9, 14 or 17 thus connected, are able to be calibrated in relation to each other in that between the vessel 9, 14 or 17 and the inlet of the distributor 8, 13 or 15 a flow sensor 10 is arranged which for calibration during delivery of the fluid via a respective nozzle 2 of a respective dispensing channel 1 records the flow and generates signals which are respectively assigned to a defined opening time of a micro-valve 4 and a specific dispensing channel 1 and thus stored allows for individual control of the micro-valves 4 in order to equalize the tolerances of the dispensing channels 1.

Abstract:
We disclose a strain detector for in-situ lift-out, comprising a nano-manipulator probe shaft; a strain gauge mounted on the probe shaft; and a first cut-out on the probe shaft. The first cut-out has a rectangular cross-section. There is a second cut-out on the probe shaft; the second cut-out having a semicircular cross-section. The second cut-out is positioned on the shaft opposite from the first cut-out; the first and second cut-outs, thus defining a thinned region in the probe. The strain gauge is mounted on the probe shaft at the location of the thinned region. There is detecting circuitry for detecting, amplifying and conditioning the output of the strain gauge; and, wires electrically connecting the strain gauge to the detection circuitry. The wires are preferably located in a trench in the probe shaft. Other embodiments are disclosed with multiple strain gauges and detectors, as well as methods of use.
Abstract:
A method of preparing a sample for examination in a TEM, where the sample is attached to a probe tip point, uses a TEM sample holder form embodied in a TEM sample holder coupon. The probe-tip points and the TEM sample holder coupon are oriented with each other so that the sample is approximately centered in the TEM sample holder form. The probe-tip points are embedded in the TEM sample holder form by means of a press, simultaneously cutting off that portion of every probe-tip point outside the boundary of the TEM sample holder form and cutting the TEM sample holder free from the TEM sample holder coupon. The operation can be formed inside or outside of a focused ion-beam instrument.
Abstract:
An automatic pipetting and analyzing device for the preparation and analysis of samples in the wells of a microtitration plate has a work platform on which positioning areas for auxiliary devices and a movement area for the sample plate are provided, a passive mechanical table without its own drive unit, the sample plate lying within the inner passive slide of the passive mechanical table, and an active mechanical table which is arranged above the passive mechanical table and by which a pipetting head can be moved in X-Y direction over the work platform in order to extract, transport and dispense liquids by at least one pipetting channel and in order to displace the sample plate by a coupling connection with the inner passive slide, for example, to place the sample plate in an incubator or to position it with the individual wells in an analysis device.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for heating golf balls or golf ball components is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing that includes a back panel comprising a plurality of slots. The slots are preferably formed such that they are parallel to a plurality of trays of golf balls. The housing also includes a front panel that includes a plurality of openings that are substantially perpendicular to the trays of golf balls. The size of each of the plurality of openings may be varied based on a plurality of adjustable panels. Each of the adjustable panels may be capable of completely sealing an opening or being displaced to completely prevent obstruction of the opening. Heated air is preferably supplied via an air supply plenum that is capable of supplying air in a direction that is perpendicular to the back panel. The method and apparatus allow the interior of the housing to maintain a desired temperature differential and allow the rate of air flow to be manipulated.

Abstract:
The invention is directed to a device for optical analytic measurement in a multisample carrier, particularly for measuring fluorescence or bioluminescence. The object of the invention, to find a novel possibility for measuring fluorescence or luminescence in multisample carriers, wherein, during excitation of all of the wells, the secondary radiation of each well is measured simultaneously without impermissible contributions of background radiation which falsify the characteristic emission of the sample material, is met according to the invention in that the excitation light from a light source unit is directed on the multisample carrier coaxially in a ring-shaped manner around an optical axis wherein the optical axis is oriented in direction of a surface normal of the multisample carrier and coaxial to the direction of the readout beam path, and a ring mirror unit with at least one curved ring mirror, which is arranged coaxial to the optical axis in such a way that the excitation light; illuminates the multisample carrier homogeneously on all sides at an oblique incident angle, is provided for orientation of the excitation light on the multisample carrier.
