Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for optimizing index modulated (IM) communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. The UE may identify a quantity of subcarriers for IM communications and transmit a message including an indication of the quantity of subcarriers to the base station. In some examples, the UE may transmit an indication of one or more subcarriers to exclude from IM communications. The base station may receive the indication of the quantity of subcarriers and/or the indication of the blacklisted subcarrier(s) and may determine a number of active subcarriers to be used based on at least the indication of the quantity of subcarriers. The base station may transmit an indication of the number of active subcarriers to the UE. The UE may process one or more received IM downlink signals based on the quantity of subcarriers.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications systems, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, to a network entity, a capability message indicating a capability of the UE to report a cyclic shift for a reference signal. The UE may receive an indication of a reporting configuration from the network entity indicating uplink resources for reporting the cyclic shift by the UE, and the UE may receive one or more reference signals from the network entity. In some examples, the UE may transmit, to the network entity and using the uplink resources, an uplink message indicating the cyclic shift. The UE may estimate the cyclic shift based on measuring a channel delay spread of the one or more reference signals, a phase noise mask of the one or more reference signals, or both.

Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive an indication that tone reservation is to be applied, to a subsequent communication, including applying rate matching on a first set of tone reservation (TR) subcarriers and applying puncturing on a second set of the TR subcarriers. The UE may receive the subsequent communication based at least in part on rate matching being applied to the first set of the TR subcarriers and puncturing being applied to the second set of the TR subcarriers. Abstract: A phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) may be enhanced to carry data encoded with a relative low modulation and coding scheme (MCS). A receive device may receiving a data channel, the data channel including a transport block encoded using a first MCS. The receiving device may receiving a PTRS interleaved with the data channel. The PTRS is encoded with the second MCS that is lower than the first MCS. The receiving device may decode the PTRS to determine PTRS data. The receiving device may track phase noise using the PTRS data as a transmitted sequence of the PTRS. The receiving device may decode the transport block for the data channel based on the first MCS and the tracked phase noise.

A communication device, such as a user equipment (UE) may receive a set of demodulation reference signal (DMRS) samples including a first subset of DMRS samples associated with a first power level and a second subset of DMRS samples associated with a second power level. The UE may perform a digital post distortion operation based on the first subset of DMRS samples associated with the first power level and the second subset of DMRS samples associated with the second power level. The UE may receive the wireless communication based on performing the digital post distortion operation.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, a signal identifying a configuration of a plurality of search spaces to monitor for a plurality of downlink control information (DCI) transmissions, wherein the plurality of search spaces is interleaved over a plurality of transmit beams of the base station, and each DCI transmission carries information associated with one or more transmit beams of the plurality of transmit beams. The UE may monitor the plurality of search spaces for the plurality of DCI transmissions associated with the UE, wherein each search space of the plurality of search spaces includes at least a portion of each DCI transmission of the plurality of DCI transmissions. The UE may decode each received DCI transmission in the plurality of DCI transmissions based at least in part on the monitoring.

In some examples, a transmitting device (e.g., a base station) may utilize machine learning to modify a signal as conditions of a channel change to reduce a peak to average power (PAPR). For example, a base station may select a type of machine learning. The base station may receive one or more feedback messages related to a condition of a channel and modify a downlink signal based on the selected type of machine learning and the one or more feedback messages. In some cases, the base station may transmit the modified downlink signal to a user equipment (UE) along with information indicating the modified downlink signal and the UE may reconstruct the downlink signal based on the information.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may determine to apply tone reservation to a downlink transmission from the base station to a user equipment (UE), and may select to rate match data of the downlink transmission around selected resource elements for the tone reservation instead of puncturing the data of the downlink transmission. The base station may transmit, to the UE, a message indicating that tone reservation is applied to the downlink transmission via rate matching, and transmit the downlink transmission including the data rate matched around the selected resource elements used for tone reservation. The UE may identify the selected resource elements used for tone reservation based on an estimation of a channel between the UE and the base station, and decode the data of the downlink transmission via rate matching around the selected resource elements used for tone reservation.
