Abstract:
A gasoline direct-injection engine includes a cavity provided in a top portion of a piston and constituting a portion of a combustion chamber defined between a cylinder head and the top portion of the piston, a fuel injection valve mounted in the cylinder head for injecting gasoline directly into the combustion chamber, and a spark plug also mounted in the cylinder head to face the combustion chamber. In this gasoline direct-injection engine, the fuel injection valve facing a substantially central portion of a ceiling surface of the combustion chamber is mounted in the cylinder head to have an axis substantially parallel to an axis of the piston, and the cavity provided in the top portion of the piston and disposed below the fuel injection valve and the spark plug is defined so that it is deeper in an area corresponding to the spark plug than in an area corresponding to the fuel injection valve. Thus, it is possible to achieve a stable lean laminar burn in wide ranges of rotational speed and load of the engine, thereby providing an improvement in fuel consumption and an enhancement in nature of an exhaust gas.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine includes a valve operating device operatively connected to a pair of intake valves and capable of opening and closing one of the intake valves in accordance with the operating condition of the engine and opening and closing the other intake valve in a small lift amount, thereby producing a deflection of the intake air drawn into the combustion chamber, and a fuel injection valve for injecting a fuel toward the pair of intake valve bores that are independently opened and closed by the intake valves, respectively. The timing of the opening and closing of the intake valve that is opened and closed only in the small lift amount is set at a time point such that the lift amount is maximized in the first half of the intake stroke of the piston. This promotes the atomization of the fuel which is being drawn in with the intake air by the opening of the intake valve opened and closed in the small lift amount, and to enhance the combustibility in the combustion chamber.
Abstract:
A microprocessor has a memory part including a memory for storing programs, a central processing unit for carrying out an operation on a data stored in the memory part depending on the programs stored in the memory, a holding part for entering an address region information with a predetermined timing and for holding the address region information, which indicates an allocation of a predetermined address region for the memory, an address generating part for generating an address of a command which is to be executed next, and an access enable part for enabling access to the memory when the address generated by the address generating part is included in the predetermined address region.
Abstract:
Hydroxycarboxylic acids are produced by using a microorganism that is improved in ability to produce nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide by deleting, mutating or substituting nadR gene in the microorganism or introducing a gene encoding nicotinic acid phosphoribosyltransferase.
Abstract:
An isopropyl alcohol-producing Escherichia coli equipped with an isopropyl alcohol production system, having at least one enhanced enzyme activity selected from the group consisting of an enhanced malate dehydrogenase activity, an enhanced NAD(P)+ transhydrogenase (AB-specific) activity, and an enhanced thiolase activity, and an isopropyl alcohol producing method including producing isopropyl alcohol from a plant-derived raw material using the isopropyl alcohol-producing Escherichia coli.
Abstract:
An object of the invention is to produce a microorganism which yields high amounts in a short time of a hydroxycarboxylic acid reduced in impurity content. This invention further provides a process for producing a hydroxycarboxylic acid, including glycolic acid, using the microorganism. This process enables a hydroxycarboxylic acid having high purity to be supplied at low cost.
Abstract:
The present invention provides: a lactic acid-producing Escherichia coli including an enzymatic activity of at least one NAD-dependent lactate dehydrogenase and an enzymatic activity of at least one NAD-independent lactate oxidoreductase, both of which are enhanced so as to decompose one of D-lactic acid or L-lactic acid and to produce the other one of D-lactic acid or L-lactic acid; and a lactic acid production method using the lactic acid-producing Escherichia coli.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a symbol illumination apparatus configured to have a symbol such as characters printed on a front surface of a transparent member, and to allow light from a plurality of light sources to pass through an interior of the transparent member from one side of the transparent member, to illuminate the symbol. A lens sheet and a diffused sheet are inserted between the transparent member and the plurality of light sources in the symbol illumination apparatus. This configuration prevents a plurality of light rays from being seen on the bottom of the transparent member.
Abstract:
A magnesium base alloy pipe having high strength and toughness is provided along with a method of manufacturing such pipes. A magnesium base alloy pipe, wherein the pipe is produced by drawing a pipe blank of a magnesium base alloy comprising containing either of the following ingredients (1) or (2): (1) about 0.1-12.0 mass % of Al; or (2) about 1.0-10.0 mass % of Zn and about 0.1-2.0 mass % of Zr. The novel alloy pipe is manufactured by a method comprising steps of providing the above-described pipe blank, pointing the pipe blank, and drawing the pointed pipe blank. The drawing step is executed at a drawing temperature above approx. 50° C.
