    摘要: A magnetic transfer master carrier of the present invention includes a base material having convex portions on its surface, the convex portions being provided corresponding to a pattern of information to be recorded on a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, and a magnetic layer deposited at least on top surfaces of the convex portions, wherein when a magnetic field is applied to the magnetic transfer master carrier, the magnetic layer absorbs a magnetic flux so as to form a pattern of the magnetic field, wherein the magnetic layer includes at least two perpendicular magnetic anisotropic layers, and an antiferromagnetic coupling induction layer which is provided so as to be sandwiched in between two neighboring layers of all the perpendicular magnetic anisotropic layers, and to induce antiferromagnetic coupling therebetween.

    摘要: A master carrier for magnetic transfer includes a transfer portion on which a magnetic layer corresponding to magnetic information for transfer is formed, and a non-transfer portion forming a concave shape relatively low with respect to the transfer portion having the magnetic layer, wherein the magnetic layer of the transfer portion has perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, with residual magnetization Mr of 500 emu/cc or less, and saturation magnetization Ms of 900 emu/cc or more. CoPt can be used as a material of the magnetic layer, and use of Co4Pt1 (at %) is especially preferable. Thereby, a master carrier for magnetic transfer which can generate a high magnetic field capable of transfer of a short bit to a high density medium is provided.

    摘要: A magnetic recording medium containing a magnetic recording layer with a coercivity squareness ratio of 0.4 to 0.9 is produced by magnetic transfer, for which a magnetic field is applied to an unrecorded magnetic recording medium while maintaining a patterned side of the patterned master medium in close contact with the magnetic recording layer for magnetic transfer. At least portions of the patterned side are made of a soft-magnetic material, and the pattern formed on the patterned side has a bit length of 60 nm or smaller. It is possible to arrange the magnetic recording layer to have a coercive force of 398 kA/m or greater, reduce the bit length to 55 nm or smaller, and heat the magnetic recording layer to 100° C. or higher during application of the magnetic field.

A residual gas pressure in an initial region of the formation of the magnetic layer is kept as low as possible, in particular, the residual gas pressure in the initial region of the formation of the magnetic layer is lower than in the other part of the production apparatus.
