Abstract: A method and apparatus for an adaptive Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) streaming service using metadata of content are provided. The metadata may include a minBufferTime attribute indicating a minimum amount of initially buffered media content. A terminal may receive content from a server before playback of the content, and may buffer the content by at least the minimum amount. The metadata may include a range attribute that designates a range of a target indicated by a Uniform Resource Locator (URL). The terminal may receive bytes designated by the range attribute from the URL, and may play back the content using the received bytes.

Abstract: Provided are methods and apparatuses for improving compression efficiency in directional intra-prediction. A video encoding apparatus, which does not need to record intra mode information, includes a mode selector that selects one from among a plurality of intra modes on the basis of a directionality of at least one neighboring block that has already been reconstructed before a current block is reconstructed, an intra predictor that obtains a prediction block of the current block from the at least one neighboring block according to the directionality of the selected mode, and obtains a residual block by subtracting the prediction block from the current block, and a unit for encoding the obtained residual block.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods, apparatuses, and systems for encoding and decoding an image. The present invention provides an intra prediction unit receives an input image, removes high frequency ingredients by low pass filtering an encoded luma pixel value in the input image during intra prediction, and generates a prediction block by predicting a chroma pixel value by using a low pass filter (LPF) LM chroma mode for applying an LM chroma mode, which is an extended chroma mode technique for generating a prediction block by predicting the chroma pixel value by applying a correlation between color planes to the luma pixel value having removed therefrom the high frequency ingredients.

Abstract: Provided is a scalable video-decoding method based on multiple layers. The scalable video-decoding method according to the present invention comprises: a step of predicting first filter information of a video to be filtered using the information contained in an object layer and/or information contained in another layer, and generating second filter information in accordance with the prediction; and a step of filtering the video to be filtered using the second filter information. According to the present invention, the amount of information being transmitted is reduced, and video compression performance is improved.
