Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) may include receiving a beam training sequence transmitted by a network access device on a plurality of transmit beams, identifying, based at least in part on the received beam training sequence, one or more sets of multiple beams that are compatible with at least one configuration for routing signals between antenna subarrays of the UE and transceiver units (TXRUs) of the UE, and transmitting, to the network access device, an indication of the identified one or more sets of multiple beams. A method for wireless communication at the network device may include transmitting the beam training sequence, receiving the indication, and selecting, based at least in part on the received indication, a set of multiple beams of the one or more sets of multiple beams to use to communicate with the UE.

The request message may include a request for the UE to transmit a set of sounding reference signals (SRSs). The set of SRSs may include two (or more) beamformed signals. The network device may receive the set of SRSs according to the request message. The network device may identify, based on a co-phasing parameter associated with the two (or more) beamformed signals, an antenna port precoder configuration to use for communicating with the UE.

A base station may identify two (or more) beamforming directions associated with simultaneous communications to a set of receivers. Each receiver may be associated with a different one of the two beamforming directions. The base station may schedule resources for simultaneous communications with the set of receivers based on the identified two beamforming directions. The base station may schedule simultaneous transmissions to the set of receivers using the scheduled resources.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques may enable a first wireless device (e.g., a parent node) to transmit a control message to a second wireless device (e.g., a child node). The control message may include a resource reservation for communication with the second wireless device. The second wireless device may receive the control message and may transmit an acknowledgment message acknowledging successful reception of the resource reservation. The first wireless device may monitor for the acknowledgment message and may communicate with the second wireless device based on whether the acknowledgment message is received. For example, if the first wireless device receives feedback acknowledging successful reception of the resource reservation at the second wireless device, the devices may communicate data in the reserved resources. Otherwise, the first wireless device may retransmit a control message if the first control message was not successfully received.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, are directed to configuration of a beamforming vector using an estimated covariance matrix, which may reduce latency commensurate with a beam training procedure. An apparatus may receive, from another apparatus, information indicating a configured subset of a set of TX beams at the other apparatus. The other apparatus may transmit pilot signals via the configured subset of the set of TX beams. The apparatus may transmit, to the other apparatus, information associated with the set of beam pairs of the apparatus and the other apparatus. The apparatus may estimate a channel covariance matrix using the accumulated signal strength value, and may calculate a beamforming vector from the channel covariance matrix. The apparatus and the other apparatus may perform a beam training procedure using respective beamforming vectors.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a wireless communications system may support group channel quality indicator (CQI) reporting. For example, a user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, signaling indicating a group of component carriers (CCs) and one or more subbands within the group of CCs. The UE may receive one or more reference signals within the one or more subbands and determine a group CQI index corresponding to the group of CCs based at least in part on the one or more reference signals. The UE may then transmit a report to the base station indicating the group CQI index and the base station may determine a CQI index for each of the one or more subbands based on the group CQI index.

Additionally, the UE may transmit, to the network entity, a message indicative of whether the antenna blockage condition is detected and may communicate with the network entity using the set of antenna arrays in accordance with whether the antenna blockage condition is detected.

Various aspects support beam switching and changing antenna array configurations for communicating in a near field range. In some examples, a user equipment (UE) may transmit a beam group indicator to a network entity, and the UE and the network entity may perform beam switching operations associated with switch communication beams in association with changes to a distance between the UE and the network entity. In some such examples, the beam switching may switch from using beam weights for communications in a far field range to beam weights for communications in a near field range. Additionally or alternatively, the network entity may change configurations of an antenna array used to communicate with the UE in association with changes to the distance. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, to a network entity, a first signal including a request to update a resolution of a phase shifting operation associated with beam-based communications. The UE may receive, from the network entity, a second signal approving the request. The UE may communicate using a beam according to an updated resolution of the phase shifting operation based on the second signal approving the request. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE may transmit a first signal including a request to suspend a beam refinement process based on the resolution of the phase shifting operation. The UE may receive a second signal approving the request to suspend the beam refinement process. The UE may communicate with the network entity using a beam based on suspending further beam refinement in response to the second signal.
