Abstract: A transmitter may initiate multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications with a receiver in which a number of codewords used in MIMO transmissions may be selected to provide enhanced communications for a particular service that is associated with the MIMO transmission. In cases where a lower-latency service is identified, a MIMO transmission may be configured with one codeword transmitted over multiple spatial layers, which may provide lower processing latency at a receiver relative to processing of multiple codewords. In cases where a mobile broadband service is identified, a MIMO transmission configured with two (or more) codewords may be transmitted over multiple spatial layers, which may provide increased data throughput relative to a single codeword MIMO transmission. A codeblock size for a transmission also may be selected based at least in part on a service associated with the transmission.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In a new radio (NR) system, a wireless device may identify a candidate codeword for a channel employing polar coding. The wireless device may perform a decoding operation on the candidate codeword to determine candidate decoding paths corresponding to encoded information bits. The decoding operation may include multiple decoding path candidates, each of which is associated with a path metric. The wireless device may evaluate a spread metric to determine if a decoding hypothesis is incorrect or if the received codeword is too corrupted for decoding. The spread metric may be based on the path metrics of the decoding paths or soft metrics of the decoding paths determined based on a subset of bit channels of the polar code. The wireless device may normalize the spread metric to compensate for signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) variation.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to reduce pilot overhead by providing common reference signals coded with cover codes that are orthogonal in time and frequency domains. Common reference signals that are coded by cover codes orthogonal in both domains can be de-spread in both the time and frequency domains for improved resolution and larger pull-in windows for both. Also disclosed is semi-uniform pilot spacing in both the frequency and time domains. In a time domain, a first pilot symbol pair is spaced by a first time interval from each other and a second pilot symbol pair is spaced by a second time interval from the first pair, the second interval being greater than the first. In a frequency domain, a first set of pilot symbols is densely placed in a selected frequency band and a second set of pilot symbols is sparsely placed surrounding and including the selected frequency band.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe discovering physical cell identifiers in wireless communications. It can be determined to discover a physical cell identifier of one or more cells in a zone based at least in part on detecting a condition. A cell-specific signal can be received from at least one cell of the one or more cells in the zone. The cell-specific signal can be associated with one of a plurality of cell-specific signal hypotheses. The physical cell identifier of the at least one cell can be determined as one of a plurality of physical cell identifiers that corresponds to the one of the plurality of cell-specific signal hypotheses.

Abstract: Techniques are described that provide for generation of a first transport block (TB) that includes a number of code blocks (CBs) that are transmitted to a receiver during a first transmission time interval (TTI) having a first duration, and retransmission of any unsuccessfully received CBs in a second TTI having a duration that is selected from multiple available TTI durations. The second TTI may have a second TTI duration that is shorter than the first TTI duration, and may have CBs only from the first TB. One or more of a time duration or frequency resources of the second TTI may be selected based on the number of CBs that are retransmitted in the second TTI.

In some aspects, the disclosed unified frame structure design could support, for example, and without limitation, at least one of: a low latency mode, a low overhead mode, a low power mode (e.g., for micro-sleep and/or dynamic bandwidth switching), an access terminal with narrowband capability operating in wideband, or ultra-low-latency and nominal multiplexing. Abstract: Systems and methods for communicating mission-critical (MiCri) data in a network including a base station and user equipment (UE) are provided. Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a channel coding and decoding algorithm that provides for generalized polar codes, including the concatenation of a plurality of component codes via one-step polarization. In a further aspect, selection of suitable component codes in this scheme can result in a generalized polar code having a cyclic shift property, such that information can be implicitly communicated according to the magnitude of the cyclic shift. In yet another aspect, a decoding algorithm provides for reliable decoding of such generalized polar codes, including exploitation of time diversity in sequential transmissions. Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide a subframe structure for time division duplex (TDD) carriers that can be entirely self-contained. That is, information transmitted on a TDD carrier may be grouped into subframes, where each subframe provides communication in both directions (e.g., uplink and downlink) in a suitable fashion to enable such communication without needing any further information in another subframe. For example, a single subframe may include scheduling information, data information corresponding to the scheduling information, and acknowledgment information corresponding to the data information.
