Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes obtaining a coding tree unit including luma samples and chroma samples. The mechanism partitions the luma samples and the chroma samples according to a common coding tree when a size of a first coding tree node exceeds a threshold. The mechanism also partitions the luma samples with a luma coding sub-tree when a size of a second coding tree node is equal to or less than the threshold. The mechanism also chroma samples with a chroma coding sub-tree when a size of a third coding tree node is equal to or less than the threshold. The luma coding sub-tree contains a different set of split modes than the chroma coding sub-tree.

Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism for selecting an interpolation filter for use in conjunction with an affine block in video coding. A motion vector is determined for a sub-block of the affine block based on control points. A sub-block size of the sub-block is also determined. The interpolation filter is selected for application to a reference block corresponding to the sub-block. The interpolation filter is selected based on the sub-block size. The motion vector of the sub-block and an offset of a current sample of the sub-block are employed to determine a reference sample at the reference block. This includes applying the interpolation filter to the reference block to determine the reference sample when the motion vector at the offset points to a fractional position at the reference block. The reference samples are employed to determine residual information in order to encode the affine block.

Abstract: It is provided a deblocking method, for deblocking a sub-partitions boundary within a coding block in image encoding and/or image decoding. The current coding block is coded in an intra prediction mode and the current coding block is partitioned into sub-partitions comprising a first sub-partition and a second sub-partition which is adjacent to the first sub-partition. The method comprises: determining a maximum filter length to be 1 for a first/second sub-partition when a width of the first or second sub-partition is 4 samples, or when a height of the first or second sub-partition is 4 samples; modifying a value of up to one sample of the first or second sub-partition, wherein the up to one sample is obtained from a row or a column of the first or second sub-partition that is perpendicular to and adjacent to the sub-partitions boundary between the first sub-partition and the second sub-partition.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes selecting a split mechanism to split a coding unit (CU) into sub-CUs for application of one or more transform units (TUs), the selection of the split mechanism based on comparing a CU width to a max TU width and comparing a CU height to a max TU height. The selected split mechanism is applied to the CU to obtain sub-CUs. A residual of one of the sub-CUs is determined. The residual includes a difference between sample values for the sub-CU and prediction samples for the sub-CU. The TUs are applied to transform the residual of the CU based on results of the selected split mechanism. A transformed residual for the CU is encoded into a bitstream.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving at a decoder, a bitstream including a video coding layer (VCL) network abstraction layer (NAL) unit containing a slice of image data divided into a plurality of tiles. A number of the tiles in the VCL NAL unit are determined. A number of entry point offsets for the tiles is also determined as one less than the number of the tiles in the VCL NAL unit. Each entry point offset indicates a starting location of a corresponding tile in the VCL NAL unit. The number of entry point offsets is not explicitly signaled in the bitstream. The entry point offsets for the tiles are obtained based on the number of entry point offsets. The tiles are decoded at the entry point offsets to generate a reconstructed image.
