Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first device may transmit, to a second device in the wireless network, a first indication of a sequence of one or more beam training phases for a beam training procedure between the first device and the second device. The first device may receive, from the second device, a second indication corresponding to the beam training procedure in response to transmitting the first indication. Both devices may communicate, based on the first and second indications, one or more signals with the second device via one or more communication beams to perform the one or more beam training phases as part of the beam training procedure, the communicating the one or more signals in accordance with the sequence of the one or more beam training phases.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for switching between full duplex and half duplex in wireless nodes. A wireless node may measure self-interference for one or more transmitter-receiver beam pairs. Based on the self-interference measurements, the wireless node may communicate on a beam pair in full duplex or half duplex. A duplex mode may be determined based on self-interference, as well as, optionally with other metrics such as rate and latency. A wireless node may switch between full duplex and half duplex based on the duplex mode determination. In addition, suitable beam pairs may be selected, along with associated duplex modes.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for antenna-array size adaptation at a BS include performing an initial beam refinement procedure using a plurality of antenna arrays with one or more devices, transmitting a plurality of beams using a plurality of antenna configurations to the one or more devices as part of an enhanced beam training procedure, wherein each antenna configuration includes a different subset of the plurality of antenna arrays used to transmit a different beam of the plurality of beams, receiving a plurality of feedback messages from the one or more devices associated with the plurality of beams transmitted using the plurality of antenna configurations, selecting an antenna configuration including a subset of the plurality of antenna arrays based on the plurality of feedback messages from the one or more devices, and communicating with the one or more devices using the selected subset of the plurality of antenna arrays.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. The described techniques provide, for example, for a first device to transmit, to a second device, an indication of a beam switching capability. In response, the second device may schedule resources for a set of shared channel transmissions based on a first beam switching configuration. In some examples, the first beam switching configuration may exceed the reported beam switching capability of the first device. In some examples, the first device may a set of selection rules to the first beam switching configuration to obtain a second beam switching configuration (e.g., based on an actual beam switching which may be different from the reported beam switching capability) and may communicate with the second device according to the second beam switching configuration. Implementing aspects of the present disclosure may lead to a more efficient resource utilization, among other benefits.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for the management of different operation modes in wireless systems. For example, wireless device(s) may operate in a high pathloss operation mode or a normal pathloss operation mode based on the pathloss experienced between the transmitting and receiving devices. In some cases, a first wireless device may transmit a message to a second wireless device to configure a bandwidth part (BWP) for high pathloss mode communications. The message may be transmitted via control signaling and after receipt of the message, the second wireless device may enter a high pathloss mode for communications with the first wireless device (e.g., after a given time duration). Some parameters may be configurable (e.g., transmission duration, coding scheme) between high pathloss mode and normal pathloss mode, while other parameters may remain the same (e.g., processing time, switching time).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for mitigation of blockages in wireless signals between wireless devices. A UE may detect that a blockage is present (e.g., a hand blockage), such as by detecting that a received signal strength from a transmitting device (e.g., a base station or access network entity) has dropped by greater than a threshold value. Based on the blockage detection, the UE may measure an amplitude of one or more reference signals at one or more antenna elements of multiple antenna elements. The UE may also measure one or more reference signals for one or more phase shifter values that are applied to the multiple antenna elements. The UE may determine a set of amplitude weightings, and a set of phase weightings, for the multiple antenna elements based on the measuring, and apply the sets of weightings for communications with the transmitting device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that provide for measuring one or more reference signals on one or more sub-bands of a wide-bandwidth communications frequency band. A user equipment (UE) may measure a path loss of a first frequency sub-band of a set of frequency sub-bands, and may determine an estimated path loss for a second frequency sub-band based on the measured path loss of the first frequency sub-band. A transmission power for the second frequency sub-band may be determined based on the estimated path loss for the second frequency sub-band, and a transmission using the second frequency sub-band may use the determined transmission power. The UE may maintain multiple transmitter power control (TPC) loops for multiple sub-bands, and power control commands for the first frequency sub-band may be used for one or more other sub-bands that are associated with the first sub-band.

One method may inlcude a base station or other device estimating an intended coverage area of all possible communication devices that are to be serviced by the base station or other device. The base station or other device may dynamically optimize at least one transmission metric such as a codebook, in response to a change in the coverage area. Another method may include a base station estimating a dynamic coverage area of a set of all possible user equipments or devices to be serviced, and dynamically optimizing a codebook structure in response to a change in the coverage area. Another method may include the base station determining a use-case of the set of all possible user equipments to be serviced by the base station, and hard-coding a metric corresponding to the use case.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Devices in a wireless communications system may exchange information related to one or more default operating frequencies. A wireless device may identify default operating frequencies within an ultra-wide bandwidth and transmit an indication of the default operating frequencies to one or more other wireless devices. A first wireless device may identify one or more default operating frequencies of a second device (e.g., a user equipment (UE)), and the first wireless device may provide the default operating frequencies of the UE to another wireless device. For example, a UE may be handed over from a source device to a target device, and the source device may provide the UE's default operating frequencies to the target device when handing over the UE to the target device. The UE and the target device may communicate over the bandwidth based on the default operating frequencies.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A communication device, such as a user equipment (UE) and a base station, for example, an eNodeB (eNB), a next-generation NodeB or a giga-NodeB (either of which may be referred to as a gNB) may support techniques for transformation of analog beamforming codebooks. The communication device may modify an analog beamforming codebook based on a covariance matrix associated with interference and noise in a wireless communication system. For example, the communication device may rotate the analog beamforming codebook based on the estimated covariance matrix, or scale one or more beam weights associated with the analog beamforming codebook based on the estimated covariance matrix, or both. The communication device may thereby perform wireless communication with another communication device in the wireless communication system using the modified analog beamforming codebook.
