Abstract: Techniques are described for identifying and reducing the incidence of artifacts in video using color gamut scalability (CGS) parameters and tables in scalable video coding (SVC). Derivation of CGS mapping tables are performed for each partition of pixel values in a color space. The pixel value domain is split into partitions and each is optimized independently. Color prediction techniques for CGS may be used by video encoders and/or video decoders to generate inter-layer reference pictures when a color gamut for a lower layer of video data is different than a color gamut for a higher layer of the video data. When mapped values are used as inter-layer predication references for the enhancement layer blocks, artifacts may appear in some frames of the sequences. A video encoder may identify blocks that potentially contain these artifacts and disable inter-layer prediction in those identified blocks.

Abstract: In one example, a device for decoding video data includes a memory configured to store video data and a video decoder configured to determine that a motion prediction candidate for a current block of video data indicates that motion information is to be derived for sub-blocks of the current block, in response to the determination: partition the current block into the sub-blocks, for each of the sub-blocks, derive motion information using motion information for at least two neighboring blocks, and decode the sub-blocks using the respective derived motion information.

Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for intra-prediction mode signaling for video coding. In one example, a video coder is configured to determine, for a block of video data, a set of most probable intra-prediction modes such that the set of most probable intra-prediction modes has a size that is equal to a predetermined number that is greater than or equal to two. The video coder is also configured to code a value representative of an actual intra-prediction mode for the block based at least in part on the set of most probable intra-prediction modes and code the block using the actual intra-prediction mode. The video coder may further be configured to code the block using the actual intra-prediction mode, e.g., to encode or decode the block. Video encoders and video decoders may implement these techniques.

Abstract: A method of decoding video data includes constructing, by a video decoder implemented in processing circuitry, a candidate list of motion vector information for a portion of a current frame. The method includes receiving, by the video decoder, signaling information indicating starting motion vector information of the candidate list of motion vector information, the starting motion vector information indicating an initial position in a reference frame. The method includes refining, by the video decoder, based on one or more of bilateral matching or template matching, the starting motion vector information to determine refined motion vector information indicating a refined position in the reference frame that is within a search range from the initial position. The method includes generating, by the video decoder, a predictive block based on the refined motion vector information and decoding, by the video decoder, the current frame based on the predictive block.

Abstract: In one example, an apparatus includes a video encoder configured to partition a block of video data into a first geometric partition and a second geometric partition using a geometric motion partition line, wherein the block comprises N×N pixels, divide the block of video data into four equally-sized, non-overlapping (N/2)×(N/2) sub-blocks, and encode at least one of the sub-blocks through which the geometric motion partition line passes using a transform size smaller than (N/2)×(N/2). The video encoder may determine transform sizes for the sub-blocks based on whether the geometric motion partition line passes through the sub-blocks. In one example, a video decoder may inverse transform the sub-blocks, and may determine transform sizes for the sub-blocks based on whether the geometric motion partition line passes through the sub-blocks.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to processing video data, including processing video data to conform to a high dynamic range (HDR)/wide color gamut (WCG) color container. The techniques apply, on an encoding side, pre-processing of color values prior to application of a static transfer function and/or apply post-processing on the output from the application of the static transfer function. By applying pre-processing, the examples may generate color values that when compacted into a different dynamic range by application of the static transfer function linearize the output codewords. By applying post-processing, the examples may increase signal to quantization noise ratio. The examples may apply the inverse of the operations on the encoding side on the decoding side to reconstruct the color values.

The second picture is a different picture from the first picture. The padded pixels are in a padding area surrounding the second picture.
