Disclosed are music symbol recognition apparatuses and methods that recognise music symbols from handwritten music notations. Various implementations may process handwritten music notations by segmenting the handwritten music notations into a plurality of elementary ink segments and then grouping the segments into graphical objects based on spatial relationships between the segments. One or more candidate music symbols may be determined for each graphical object, along with a symbol cost for each symbol, which represents a likelihood that the graphical object belongs to a predetermined class of symbols. The music symbol candidates may be parsed to form graphs based on grammar rules, and the graph most likely to represent the handwritten music notations may be selected for display or other use. The selection may be based on the symbol costs associated with each candidate and on spatial costs associated with the grammar rules that are applied to the candidates.
摘要:
An apparatus for the translation of musical chords from one key to another key. Both the electronics and mechanical embodiments of the invention permit the user to translate a musical score in a source key to a target key by identifying the appropriate chords for the target key. In the mechanical embodiments, the source key is physically aligned with the target key. This positions the chords to also be in aligned or associated with each other. In the electronics embodiment, the user establishes the source key and the target key to establish the chord mapping. In one electronic embodiment, the operator also identifies the source chord for the absolute identification of the targeted chord. Optionally, a listing of the chord mapping is printed for later reference or for transcription onto the musical score.

A key signature actuator for a musical keyboard eases playing from music written with difficult key signatures by automatically actuating the sharps or flats in the key signatures. The keyboard has five back digitals per octave span, like the traditional keyboard, except that the back digitals are de-emphasized as landmarks by making them light gray, and musical notes are associated with movable landmarks, rather than with fixed digitals. When in written music a key signature is indicated, the landmarks are electronically shifted so that the key note of that key signature is played by a tonic digital (a fixed front digital to the immediate left of a group of two back digitals). At the same time the tonic digital is made to sound the key tone corresponding to that key signature by adjusting the overall pitch of the musical output by means of a uniform pitch changer. The number of electrically changeable landmark elements is minimized and binary coding is used to simplify the electrical connections. Apparatus for moving the landmarks mechanically is also disclosed.

A system and method to generate and implement digital tuning files based on p-smooth number sequences for use with a digital musical instrument is provided. A p-smooth number sequence is generated and a subset of p-smooth numbers from the sequence is chosen as a musical octave of musical note frequencies. Each note within the octave is designated as a tonic, and each tonic is used to generate additional musical octaves and corresponding musical note notations. The musical octaves and corresponding musical note notations are stored into the digital memory of the digital musical instrument, and the instrument's native musical note mappings are remapped to the musical octaves and corresponding musical note notations from the digital file.
