    摘要: There is provided a pipe joint between a first pipe end and a second pipe end. The pipe joint includes telescoping means allowing the ends to move axially with respect to each other while maintaining fluid-type communication. The joint also includes a plurality of contraction units located exterally of the pipe ends and the telescoping means. Each contraction unit includes a rod member with one end engaged with a first flange member fixed with respect to the first pipe end, while the other end of the rod member is secured to a piston riding in a cylinder with a cylinder bottom, the cylinder being engaged with a second flange member fixed with respect to the second pipe end. The cylinder bottom lies is between the piston and the previously defined one end of the rod member, and the cylinder is displaced axially away from the telescoping means. A fluid conduit connects the interior of one of the pipe ends with the cylinder volume lying between the piston and the cylinder bottom, so that the pressure inside the cylinder volume is a function of the pressure inside one of the pipe ends. This allows compensation for the expansion forces arising from pressure in the pipe joint, but does so with a structure in which the contraction units are not located directly opposite the telescoping means, thus facilitating disassembly for repair and other purposes.

    摘要: A flange union is disclosed which is provided with opposed recessed female seats carried by the terminal inner ends of the flange members. A replacable sealing ring having an annular convex sealing surface is positioned between the annular cooperating sealing surfaces of the female seats. The configuration of the sealing surfaces is such that an annular metal-to-metal line seal of minimum surface area is formed closely adjacent the internal diameter of the bore. This results in the need for markedly less stress and strain on the flange bolts to achieve and maintain the sealing pressure. The flange union will seal effectively with the flange members being either in or out of alignment.

    摘要: A misalignment connector has a pair of hubs providing internal, opposed spherical surfaces loaded into engagement with an internal, metal sealing ring having a spherical, outer sealing surface, the hubs being constrained together to maintain loading of the seal ring over a range of angles of misalignment. The internal seal ring is initially retained in position with respect to one of the hubs and is shiftable for proper sealing and loading engagement by the hubs over the range of permissible misalignment. The metal-to-metal seal between the hubs and the seal ring is backed up by a resilient seal. The metal seal ring has an outer peripheral projection forming a connection for the retainer, and the projection is engageable by the hubs to angularly shift the seal ring during assembly.

    摘要: The specification discloses a pipe joint which utilizes a spherically tapered coupling that mates spherically tapered pipe ends. Because of the spherical tapers, O-ring seals contained in the coupler do not engage the pipe ends until the pipe ends and coupling are seated to form the pipe joint. In one embodiment, a plastic ring or cap is made integral with each pipe end and acts as a sliding surface that allows ready joining of the pipe ends with the coupler.
