    摘要: Disclosed is a cam follower of which the structure is improved such that the limit load can be increased. The cam follower is one which moves relative to a cam, mediated by a liquid lubricant, wherein a plurality of recesses are provided on the contact surface of the cam follower which makes contact with the cam, and the depth of the plurality of recesses of the contact surface is between 0.005 and 0.03 mm. By providing the plurality of recesses on the contact surface of the cam follower which makes contact with the cam, the present invention makes it possible to improve the state of lubrication between the cam follower and the cam which move relative to each other mediated by the liquid lubricant and to reduce the heat and the wear which occur at the interface between the same.

    摘要: A compression release engine brake unit includes an oil outlet passage formed in a socket brake, which stores engine brake oil, and a reset member opening or closing the outlet passage. The reset member discharges the engine brake oil by opening the oil outlet passage in response to the rotation of a rocker arm during engine braking and, thereby, the engine brake restores the initial state. Since the compression release engine brake can restore the initial state, the return valve lift is the same as when the compression release engine brake is not actuated. Accordingly, the valve does not butt against an engine piston.

    摘要: A mechanism (40) for enabling an engine cylinder valve (18) to close at various times during engine cycles has a hydraulic actuator (58) and a control valve (60) controlling the hydraulic actuator a) to constrain a pivot axis of a valve rocker (52) against relocation while the cylinder valve is being forced increasingly open, and b) to release the constraint after the cylinder valve has been forced open for enabling the pivot axis to relocate so that the intake valve can close early thereby providing early IVC. A hydraulic snubber (64) snubs closing motion of the cylinder valve through a scheduling geometry to a hydraulic accumulator (62). The control valve opens to the accumulator to allow the rocker pivot axis to relocate and provide early IVC and closes to return the pivot axis to a location that doesn't provide early IVC.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine includes an electromagnetic valve actuator having an armature between upper and lower electromagnets with a stem extending through one electromagnet and guided by a bushing with increased clearance about at least a portion of the inner circumference in at least a middle portion of the bushing to reduce oil shear length and associated viscous friction in the actuator. A two-piece intake/exhaust valve guide includes a lower half with a stepped outer diameter cooperating with a counter-bored hole in the cylinder head to provide a positive stop. The upper and lower halves of the valve guide have increased clearance relative to the valve stem around at least a portion of the inner circumference to reduce oil shear length and associated viscous friction. Reducing viscous friction of the actuator and associated valve guide improves system robustness by decreasing the system sensitivity to temperature.

    摘要: Contours of a surface of a bearing which extends about an axis are displayed on a grid. To visualize the contours, points on the surface are measured at a plurality of angular positions to determine the corresponding measured values. The measured values at each angular position are normalized to determine a normalized measurement datum corresponding to each angular position. The normalized measurement datum is subtracted from each of the measured values to determine a plurality of deviations of the corresponding points. Shades are assigned that correspond to a range of possible deviations. Each of the deviations are displayed as a data segment on a grid that represents the shape of the surface of the bearing. Each data segment is shaded on the grid to the corresponding shade to provide a topographical representation of the contours of the surface of the bearing.

    摘要: A damper is shown for damping the movements of a valve spring in an engine. The valve spring can be housed within the damper or the damper may be located inside of the valve spring. The damper is made from a suitable polymer and has one or more tabs or slots located radially to a central axis and one or more helical springs, rings or bands housed in the slots or between the tabs. The helical springs, rings or bands are located on the outer surface of the damper where the valve spring is housed within the damper. The cross section, number and location of the tabs, slots, helical springs, rings or bands can be adjusted depending on the particular application of the damper and the amount of damping that is desired for the particular application. The damper can also incorporate a hub or stem seal.
