The present invention relates to an electronic device for performing authentication by using biometric information and an operating method thereof, the electronic device comprising: a first biometric sensor for acquiring biometric information by a first method; a second biometric sensor for acquiring the biometric information or other biometric data by a second method; a display; and a processor, wherein the processor may be configured to acquire context information relating to the first method and the second method, select at least one method from the first method and the second method on the basis of at least a part of the context information, and display at least one graphic object corresponding to the at least one authentication method through the display.

The present invention is for registering and authenticating biometric data in an electronic device, the electronic device including: a display including a touch sensor; a fingerprint sensor for acquiring fingerprint data through at least a partial region of the display region of the display; and a processor. Here, the processor can be set to: acquire first touch information from a first user input using the touch sensor, in response to the first user input for registering a fingerprint of a user; acquire first fingerprint data using the fingerprint sensor; register the first fingerprint data as fingerprint information based on the first touch information, the registering operation including an operation for classifying the first fingerprint data based on the first touch information; acquire second touch information from a second user input using the touch sensor, in response to the second user input for authenticating the fingerprint of the user; acquire second fingerprint data using the fingerprint sensor; select a candidate group for comparison from among the fingerprint information based on the second touch information; and compare fingerprint data included in the candidate group with the second fingerprint data.

The processor may be configured to select an external electronic device in response to a user input, broadcast, through the at least one communication circuit using a first protocol, a connection request for a second protocol-based communication with the external electronic device, receive a response to the connection request from the external electronic device through the at least one communication circuit, and perform communication with the external electronic device through the at least one communication circuit using a second protocol, based on connection information about the external electronic device for the second protocol-based communication, the connection information being contained in the response.

According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, an electronic device may comprise a first sensor configured to obtain first biometric information of a first authentication level from a user, a second sensor configured to obtain the first biometric information and/or second biometric information of a second authentication level higher than the first authentication level from the user, a memory configured to store at least one piece of biometric information authenticated in relation with the user, and a processor configured to compare the at least one piece of biometric information with the first biometric information obtained through the first sensor while the electronic device operates in a locked state, to activate a timer to stop input to the first sensor for a designated time when authentication based on the first biometric information fails a designated number of times based on the comparison of the first biometric information, to obtain the second biometric information through the second sensor while the timer is active, and to deactivate the timer when the second biometric information is authenticated based on the at least one piece of biometric information.
