    Abstract: A curved liquid crystal display including a first curved substrate; a second curved substrate; a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules having negative dielectric anisotropy, the liquid crystal layer being interposed between the first and second curved substrates; a first curved liquid crystal alignment layer interposed between the liquid crystal layer and the first curved substrate; and a second curved liquid crystal alignment layer interposed between the liquid crystal layer and the second curved substrate. The second curved liquid crystal alignment layer has an average value of surface roughness values greater than an average value of surface roughness values of the first curved liquid crystal alignment layer.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a thin film transistor panel including a first alignment layer, an opposing panel including a second alignment layer, and opposite to the thin film transistor panel, and a liquid crystal layer between the thin film transistor panel and the opposing panel, and including liquid crystal molecules, wherein a difference between a pretilt angle provided by the first alignment layer and a pretilt angle provided by the second alignment layer is equal to or greater than about 0.8 degree.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: a first insulation substrate; a lower electrode disposed on the first insulation substrate; a second insulation substrate facing the first insulation substrate; an upper electrode disposed on the second insulation substrate and facing the lower electrode; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the lower electrode and the upper electrode. The lower electrode forms one unit region, the unit region includes a plurality of subregions, and the lower electrode includes: a first lower electrode including a central pattern disposed at a center of a border between each pair of adjacent subregions, and a plurality of micro branch portions that are coupled to the central pattern, the micro branch portions of two different subregions extending in different directions; and a second lower electrode having intersecting elongated portions that each extend along parts of the border.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display that can improve an aperture ratio and liquid crystal control ability.     Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a first alignment film disposed on the first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first alignment film and the second substrate. The first substrate has a surface curved in a first direction and the second substrate has a surface curved in the first direction. The first alignment film includes a polymerization initiator and a polymer chain that is a copolymer of a dianhydride-based compound and a diamine-based compound. The polymer chain includes a main chain including a repeating unit including an imide group, a first side chain, including a vertical align group, bonded to the main chain, and a second side chain bonded to the main chain. The functional group includes a biphenyl group or a terphenyl group.
