Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, wireless devices may encode and decode transmissions using polar codes. A transmitting device may encode a payload based on a selected payload size. For example, the transmitting device may construct a bit vector including payload bits, parity bits, frozen bits, or some combination of these, and may modify the bits or the order of the bits based on the selected payload size. The device may generate a polar-encoded codeword based on this bit vector, and may transmit the polar-encoded codeword to a receiving device. The receiving device may blind decode the polar-encoded codeword, and may determine the correct payload size based on the decoded bit vector. For example, the device may perform decoding or may check decoded bits based on a payload size hypothesis, where the decoding may fail for any incorrect payload size hypothesis.

Abstract: A device may identify that an incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat request (IR-HARQ) scheme is used in association with sequential transmissions of an information bit vector to or from another wireless device, where each transmission in the scheme is associated with a resource size. The device may identify a mother code length for a polar code based at least in part on an aggregate resource size associated with the sequential transmissions. The device may identify an adjusted bit index set for the polar code based at least in part on the IR-HARQ scheme. The device may transmit (or receive), for each transmission of the information bit vector, a respective subset of encoded bits generated by mapping the information bit vector to a set of polarized bit channels of the polar code in accordance with the bit index set.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive an indicator, in a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) payload, that indicates whether the PDCCH payload includes data or downlink control information (DCI) for obtaining the data, wherein the indicator is an initial state of a cyclic redundancy check that includes a predefined sequence of bits; and obtain at least one of the data or the DCI based at least in part on the indicator. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for a location indicator transmission that may indicate a location of control channel resources that are to be monitored by a user equipment (UE) for control channel transmissions. A UE may receive the location indicator, and monitor the indicated control channel resources to receive downlink control information with an allocation of shared channel resources for the UE. The location indicator may include one or more parameters that allow a UE to receive the control channel transmissions according to a single decoding hypothesis. The location indicator may include one or more of a valid period of the location of the control channel transmissions, an interval at which control channel transmissions may be transmitted, an aggregation level used for the control channel transmissions, an index that identifies a first control channel element of the control channel transmissions, or combinations thereof.

Abstract: Wireless devices may use polar codes for encoding transmissions and may support combining transmissions to improve decoding reliability (e.g., by achieving chase combining and incremental redundancy (IR) gains). For example, an encoding device may puncture a set of mother code bits using different puncturing patterns to obtain different redundancy versions for a first transmission and a re-transmission. Each puncturing pattern may correspond to an equivalent decoding performance. In some cases, to obtain equivalent puncture sets, the encoding device may perform punctured index manipulation procedures on an initial puncturing pattern. A punctured index manipulation procedure may involve switching a binary state for a binary bit at a same binary bit index for each puncture index in a puncturing pattern. A device may receive the transmissions generated using the equivalent puncture sets and may combine the information for improved decoding reliability.

Abstract: A transmitting device may identify a set of bit locations of a polar code for encoding an input vector based at least in part on a reliability order of the bit locations, where the input vector includes a set of payload bits. The transmitting device may map bits of the input vector to respective bit locations of the identified set of bit locations and may apply a masking operation to a subset of bits of the input vector that is mapped to a most reliable subset of the set of bit locations. The transmitting device may perform an encoding operation according to the mapped input vector to generate a codeword for transmission. A receiving device may perform complementary operations to obtain the payload bits of the input vector. Based on the described techniques, a false alarm rate for the receiving device may be suppressed.
