Abstract:
A method for estimating a location of an electronic device and an associated apparatus are provided, where the method includes the steps of: sending a pre-association broadcast request frame by the electronic device to multiple responders in a wireless network system; receiving a plurality of response frames corresponding to the pre-association broadcast request frame from the multiple responders; and performing a timing measurement according to information carried by the plurality of response frames for determining the location of the electronic device. For example, each of the response frames is sent from one of the responders, and each of the responders sends only one response frame corresponding to the pre-association broadcast request frame. As a result, the power consumption can be greatly decreased, and the related art problem of insufficiency of the total channel capacity of the wireless network system can be prevented.

A method and apparatus for performing timing measurement for location estimation of an electronic device are provided, where the method includes the steps of: sending a pre-association broadcast request frame to trigger multiple responders in a wireless network system to initiate timing measurement; and performing timing measurement according to a plurality of timestamps, for determining a location of the electronic device, wherein for a specific responder of the responders, a first timestamp and a second timestamp within the plurality of timestamps respectively correspond to a time of departure (ToD) and a time of arrival (ToA) of a pre-association uni-cast response frame received from the specific responder, and a third timestamp and a fourth timestamp within the plurality of timestamps respectively correspond to a ToD and a ToA of an acknowledgement frame corresponding to the pre-association uni-cast response frame, the acknowledgement frame sent from the electronic device to the specific responder.

A wireless device for interoperating with a wireless system transmits a first preamble over a first bandwidth followed by a frame over a second bandwidth, where the first bandwidth is different from the second bandwidth. The first preamble is readable by the wireless system and the wireless system reserves an interval for the wireless device to perform transmission. Hence, the wireless device is able to interoperate with the wireless system.

A wireless communications system and associated method are disclosed. The system, in one configuration, includes an antenna and a wireless communications module configured to operate and communicate with a plurality of wireless communications stations via the antenna, in compliance with a wireless communications protocol. The communications include transmitting a first control packet to disable at least one of the wireless communications stations from data transmissions in compliance with the wireless communications protocol. The system is also configured to transmit a second control packet to enable at least one of the disabled wireless communications stations to perform the data transmissions. The first control packet is transmitted using a first configuration transmission power or modulation scheme, and the second control packet is transmitted using a second configuration transmission power and modulation scheme.
