Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile system scans wireless channels for any upcoming access points using a dedicated monitor radio of the mobile system. The mobile system identifies a particular wireless channel in use by an upcoming access point. The mobile system notifies a second radio of the mobile system of the particular wireless channel. The mobile system performs a handoff between a current access point and the upcoming access point in part by switching the second radio of the mobile system to the particular wireless channel of the upcoming access point.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a controller for an overhead mesh of access points in an area receives an indication from one or more access points of the overhead mesh that a client device is present in the area. The controller determines movements of the client device within the area. The controller selects a set of access points of the overhead mesh to support communications between the client device and the overhead mesh, based on the movements of the client device determined by the controller. The controller causes the controller, the set of access points to form communication schedules to support communications with the client device that do not require a prior association exchange with the client device.

The supervisory process computes, based on the wireless signal quality measurements, an optimal amount of radio frequency attenuation that the particular node should use. The supervisory process generates an attenuation configuration for the particular node that specifies the optimal amount of radio frequency attenuation that the particular node should use. The supervisory process pushes the attenuation configuration to a variable attenuator of the particular node.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a networking device receives packets of a traffic flow destined for a mobile system. The networking device sends a first flowlet of the traffic flow towards the mobile system via a first wireless access point. The networking device determines an idle time between the first flowlet and a second flowlet of the traffic flow. The networking device sends, based on the idle time, the second flowlet towards the mobile system via a second wireless access point.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an intermediate device in a backhaul mesh for a wireless network receives a registration from an access point of the wireless network in communication with a mobile system. The intermediate device receives a packet that is multicast by a gateway into the backhaul mesh and destined for the mobile system. The intermediate device makes, based on the registration, a determination that the packet should be sent to the access point. The intermediate device sends the packet to the access point for transmittal to the mobile system.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a client device enters an area having an overhead mesh of access points, each access point comprising one or more directional transmitters each configured to transmit a beam cone in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area. The client device obtains an area-dependent communication schedule for the overhead mesh that is exclusive or partially-exclusive to the client device for the area. The client device sends, during an arbitrary timeslot of the area-dependent communication schedule, a pull request. The client device receives, from a particular access point in the overhead mesh, a packet in response to the pull request.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains location data indicative of a location of a mobile system relative to a base station of a wireless network. The device predicts, based on the location data, a drop in received signal strength indicator as the mobile system approaches the base station. Abstract: In one embodiment, a gateway to a Layer-3 network forms a first Layer-2 tunnel between the gateway and a first wireless access point (AP) that communicates wirelessly with a first mobile node of a mobile system (MS) via a first wireless connection. The gateway generates a mapping that associates an onboard device of the MS with the first AP and an identifier for the MS, based on traffic conveyed via the first Layer-2 tunnel and associated with the onboard device, the traffic comprising a header that indicates the identifier for the MS. The gateway receives, from a second AP, an indication that the MS is roaming from the first wireless connection to a second wireless connection, the indication including the identifier for the MS. The gateway updates the mapping to associate the onboard device of the MS with a second AP, based on the indication that the MS is roaming.
