Abstract:
A column type fuel cell is provided, including a column electrode, a first catalytic layer, one or more channels, an electrolyte layer, a second catalytic layer, and a ring electrode. The surrounding surface of the column electrode has several protruding blocks. The first catalytic layer is on the surrounding surface of the column electrode to form a pillar, and is connected to the protruding blocks to form the channel passing through two ends of the pillar. The first catalytic layer is covered with the electrolyte layer, the electrolyte layer is covered with the second catalytic layer, and the second catalytic layer is covered with the ring electrode.
Abstract:
Provided in the present invention are recombinant peptides and a method for using the peptides in stimulating an immune response against human high molecular weight-melanoma associated antigen (HMW-MAA). The peptides were designed from the identification of regions of structural and amino acid sequence homology between HMW-MAA and the mouse anti-idiotypic monoclonal antibody MK2-23. The method comprises the step of administering to an individual a peptide of the invention in an amount effective to elicit an immune response against HMW-MAA.
Abstract:
An antigen presenting composition comprising a plurality of 2-component MHC class I complexes and a carrier is described. A method for activating a group of antigen-specific CD8+ T cells comprising incubation of a group of naïve CD8+ T cells with the antigen presenting composition is also presented. A method for inducing the proliferation of a group of antigen-specific CD8+ T cells comprising incubation of a group of naïve CD8+ T cells with the antigen presenting composition is further described.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic imaging technique for differentiating the distribution of scatterers within a tissue comprises a correcting and an imaging procedure. The correcting procedure includes steps of obtaining ultrasonic backscattered signals from a standard phantom, compensating and demodulating the signals into an envelope image, calculating the parameter m and m, selecting a window to calculate parameter mw in each location of the envelope image and mw, if mw≠ m then increase the size of the window to repeat the steps above, and when mw= m, it is the optimal size of the window. The imaging procedure includes steps of obtaining ultrasonic backscattered signals from a target tissue, compensating and demodulating the signals into an envelope image, calculating mw in each location to form a mw matrix, and presenting the matrix by utilizing pseudocolors.
Abstract:
A power supply having an input and an output, includes a power converter coupled between the input and output of the power supply including at least one switch that is controlled by comparing a sensed voltage, the sensed voltage corresponding to a current flowing through the switch, to a reference voltage. A controller, in response to a change detected in a switching frequency of the switch, reduces audible noise generated by the power supply by at least one of: adjusting the reference voltage; adjusting the current sense voltage; or adjusting a resistance used to generate the sensed voltage.

Abstract:
A roller assembly for a massaging device is composed of a shaft, a plurality of roller sleeves, and a locating plug. The shaft is provided in the hollow end thereof with a plurality of retaining ribs and is further provided at another end thereof with two lugs and a ratchet located between two lugs for holding a resilient cord. The roller sleeves are fitted rotatably over the shaft and are provided respectively on the outer wall surface thereof with a plurality of massaging protuberances. The locating plug is provided in the outer wall surface of one end thereof with a plurality of retaining slots engageable securely with the retaining ribs of the shaft. The locating plug is further provided at another end thereof with two lugs and a ratchet located between the two lugs for holding securely a resilient cord. The locating plug is secured at one end thereof to the hollow end of the shaft for locating the roller sleeves which are fitted over the shaft.
Abstract:
A carotid pulse measurement device provided for measuring carotid pulse of a user's neck includes a band, an artery-pressing air cell, an inflating/deflating device, and a pressure detection unit. The band functions to surround the user's neck. The air cell is arranged in the band and is fluidly connected to the inflating/deflating device for selectively inflating/deflating the air cell. The pressure detection unit detects variation of pressure inside the air cell. To use the measurement device, the band is put around the user's neck with the air cell positioned exactly corresponding to the carotid artery of the neck so that the pressure detection device detects the pressure variation and generates a digital pulse signal, which is employed to calculate arteriosclerosis index of the user for evaluation the degree of arteriosclerosis of the user.
Abstract:
A supporting apparatus is provided. A supporting apparatus comprises a positioning plate with a longitudinal tube passing therethrough. A plurality of horizontal connectors engages with and fixes onto the positioning plate. Horizontal connectors are connected to both end of a horizontal tube. Outer surface of each end of the horizontal tube comprises engaging plates with symmetry for engaging with an inclined connector at each end of an inclined tube. The inclined tube and the horizontal tube are engaged on a central line of the horizontal tube so that an eccentric torque is not produced during force distribution. An arc profile and a flat profile on a sidewall of the positioning plate are alternatively arranged so that the tubes are respectively adjustable and taking force equally, such that the supporting apparatus is strong and stable
Abstract:
A door mount air conditioning apparatus includes: a casing defining an accommodating space; a fan unit mounted in the accommodating space; a control panel mounted on the casing and connected electrically to the fan unit; a flow-guiding mechanism including an air-collecting conduit connected to and extending downwardly from the casing and having a lower open end, and a ground abutting unit connected to and extending downwardly from the lower open end of the air-collecting conduit; and a bracket unit including a supporting frame adapted to be secured to a door panel. The casing and the air-collecting conduit are detachably mounted on the supporting frame.
