In another aspect, receiving, by a wireless communication device, a first transmission, wherein the first transmission is non-coherently encoded independent of channel state information (CSI); and performing, by the wireless communication device, a non-coherent decoding operation on the first transmission to decode the first transmission. Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A communication device may receive control signaling indicating a downlink reference signal configuration, for example, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) configuration. The communication device may receive a downlink reference signal (e.g., a DMRS) over a downlink control channel (e.g., a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)) during an initial symbol duration of a transmission time interval (TTI). The downlink reference signal may include a set of bits including a first subset of bits including network temporary identifier bits and a second subset of bits including constellation bits associated with a downlink data channel (e.g., a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH)). The communication device may process the downlink reference signal (e.g., a DMRS) based on the downlink reference signal configuration (e.g., a DMRS configuration).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first wireless device may identify a set of data resource elements for transmitting data in one or more symbols periods. The first wireless device may generate, for the one or more symbol periods based on the set of data resource elements, a sequence of a set of pilot resource elements associated with the set of data resource elements, the sequence of the set of pilot resource elements including a phase tracking reference signal. The first wireless device may transmit, to a second wireless device in the one or more symbol periods, the set of data resource elements and the set of pilot resource elements. The second wireless device may decode a first subset of the set of pilot resource elements based on a second subset of the set of pilot resource elements to determine the phase tracking reference signal.

Abstract: Methods related to wireless communication systems and the transmission of code blocks on such systems are provided. A wireless communication device interleaves a plurality of code block segments in time and frequency. The segments are interleaved by mapping a first code block segment of the plurality of code block segments to a first resource located at a first time and a first frequency, wherein the first code block segment is associated with a first code block, and mapping a second code block segment of the plurality of code block segments to a second resource based on at least one of the first time or the first frequency of the first resource and a code block proximity parameter, wherein the second code block segment is associated with a second code block different from the first code block. The device then transmits the plurality of interleaved code block segments. Other features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for power saving by detecting empty symbols. In accordance with some implementation, a UE may determine that a data channel is not allocated to it by determining that there is no beam directed to it and there was no prior resource allocation to it. The UE upon such determination may enter sleep mode until the start of the next scheduling unit. This may result in reduction in power consumption compared to entering sleep mode after demodulating and decoding the control channel.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A non-coherent modulation configuration may be selected for a transmission of a set of data based on a radio frequency spectrum band used for the transmission. After selecting the non-coherent modulation configuration, the set of data may be modulated using a differential phase shift keying modulation technique. After selecting the non-coherent modulation configuration, a set of frequency-domain symbols may be generated from the set of modulated symbols using a discrete Fourier transform. The set of frequency-domain symbols may be mapped to a set of subcarriers, and a time-domain waveform may be generated from the mapped set of frequency-domain symbols, yielding a time-domain waveform. The time-domain waveform may be transmitted over the radio frequency band.

Generally, to improve throughput via more intentional tone reservation, a receiving device (e.g., a user equipment (UE)), may identify one or more tones that have poor signal quality. The receiving device may transmit an indication of the one or more tones having poor signal quality to a transmitting device. The transmitting device may reserve one or more of the identified tones for use in a tone reservation scheme, such as to carry peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction signals, and may transmit data signals over tones that have higher signal quality.
