Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Examples may include receiving, at a user equipment (UE) a random access channel (RACH) configuration message from a base station, where the message indicates a channel metric (e.g., received signal strength indicator (RSSI), reference signal received power (RSRP), reference signal received quality (RSRQ), a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), or the like) and a threshold associated with the channel metric. The, UE may measure a reference signal (e.g., synchronization signal block (SSB), channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS), or the like) and select a RACH procedure based on comparing the measured channel metric to the threshold. For example, the UE may select a two-step RACH procedure if the measured channel metric satisfies the threshold specified in the configuration. In some cases, the UE may select a RACH procedure or a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure based on a QoS parameter.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for selecting and indicating a quasi colocation (QCL) source signal for sidelink (SL) communications. For example, a scheduling node may select from multiple candidates a signal for a first user equipment (UE) to use as a spatial QCL source for a receive (RX) or transmit (TX) beam to use for communicating with a second UE on a SL interface. The scheduling node may then signal the first UE an indication of the selection of the signal.

A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a serving cell (e.g., serving base station), an indication to update a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state of a first component carrier associated with a neighboring cell (e.g., neighboring base station). In some cases, the UE may be configured with a serving cell update rule and a neighboring cell update rule. A wireless device may monitor for a transmission of a synchronization signal block that includes a first portion generated using a first waveform type and a second portion using a second waveform type that is different than the first waveform type. After detecting the first portion of the synchronization signal block, the wireless device may process the second portion of the synchronization signal block based on information obtained from the first portion of the synchronization signal block. Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for detection of beam failure and beam failure recovery. A user equipment (UE) may perform measurements on one or more reference signals for one or more beams. In the event that one of the beams has a measurement that indicates a potential beam failure, the UE may increment a beam failure count (BFC) at a physical layer of the UE, and start a BFC timer. In the event that the BFC reaches a threshold value prior to expiration of the BFC timer, the UE may trigger a switch to a different active beam, provide a beam failure indication (BFI) to a higher layer of the UE, or both. A higher layer at the UE may autonomously adjust a BFI threshold for a number of BFIs that are needed to trigger a beam failure declaration to the base station.
