    Abstract: Techniques are described of a linear model prediction mode. A set of reconstructed neighboring luma samples are determined. Two pairs of luma value and chroma value are determined according to N reconstructed neighboring luma samples, N reconstructed neighboring chroma samples, M reconstructed neighboring luma samples, and M reconstructed neighboring chroma samples. The minimum value of the N reconstructed neighboring luma samples is not less than the maximum luma value of the remaining reconstructed neighboring luma samples of the set of reconstructed neighboring luma samples. The maximum value of the M reconstructed neighboring luma samples is not larger than the minimum luma value of the remaining reconstructed neighboring luma samples of the set of reconstructed neighboring luma samples. M>1 and N>1. Linear model parameters are determined based on the two pairs of luma value and chroma value, and a predictive block is determined based on the linear model parameters.

    Abstract: Motion vectors (MVs) are used as predictors for prediction of an image for a current coding unit (CU) within a current video frame. The MVs are from a list of motion vector candidates (MVCs), which is generated. The list includes MVs determined from a first or second pattern, each pattern specifying MVC positions. The first MV positions are within a current video frame, while the second MV positions are for a video frame different from the current frame. The MVC list is generated for a current CU with the MV positions being relative to a position of the current CU. In particular, the MVC list is generated in dependence on a size of the current CU and a size of a grid specifying a minimum distance between two MV positions. One or more MVs as specified by the MV positions of said pattern are included into the MVC list.

    Abstract: A method for boundary partition of a current block of a picture is provided. The method includes that a decoder receives a bitstream, where the bitstream includes a partition indicator; parses the bitstream to obtain the partition indicator; determines whether the current block is to be split based on the partition indicator; determines whether the current block is a boundary block when the current block is not to be split; and performs a boundary partition on the current block when the current block is a boundary block. The partition indicator of a same partition syntax is used no matter whether the current block is a boundary block (isB) or a non-boundary block (noB), which is benefit to keep the continuity of context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) engine, thus it will lead to higher coding efficiency.

    Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes selecting a split mechanism to split a coding unit (CU) into sub-CUs for application of one or more transform units (TUs), the selection of the split mechanism based on comparing a CU width to a max TU width and comparing a CU height to a max TU height. The selected split mechanism is applied to the CU to obtain sub-CUs. A residual of one of the sub-CUs is determined. The residual includes a difference between sample values for the sub-CU and prediction samples for the sub-CU. The TUs are applied to transform the residual of the CU based on results of the selected split mechanism. A transformed residual for the CU is encoded into a bitstream.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism for selecting an interpolation filter for use in conjunction with an affine block in video coding. A motion vector is determined for a sub-block of the affine block based on control points. A sub-block size of the sub-block is also determined. The interpolation filter is selected for application to a reference block corresponding to the sub-block. The interpolation filter is selected based on the sub-block size. The motion vector of the sub-block and an offset of a current sample of the sub-block are employed to determine a reference sample at the reference block. This includes applying the interpolation filter to the reference block to determine the reference sample when the motion vector at the offset points to a fractional position at the reference block. The reference samples are employed to determine residual information in order to encode the affine block.

The method includes receiving a video bitstream including a picture unit (PU) having a picture header (PH) with a PH syntax structure, where the PH syntax structure includes the following syntax elements common for all slices of a coded picture associated with the PH syntax structure: a non-reference picture flag, a picture parameter set (PPS) identifier (ID), a picture order count (POC) least significant bit (LSB), a no output of prior pictures flag, a recovery point POC, and a picture output flag; and decoding the coded picture from the PU to obtain a decoded picture.
