Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may transmit a configured grant that indicates time-frequency resources for a user equipment (UE) to use to transmit sidelink or uplink messages in a wireless communications system. To reduce the amount of low priority traffic that may interfere with higher priority traffic, the base station may configure a threshold probability to allow high priority sidelink transmissions and to cancel low priority transmissions. The base station may transmit a cancellation indication that includes a priority indication instructing the UE to cancel transmissions having a priority less than a priority threshold during the allocated time-frequency resources. Based on transmitting the cancellation indication, the base station may cancel transmissions that have low priority, and the UE may determine whether to transmit (or to refrain from transmitting) one or more messages based on the priority of the message.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to millimeter wave (mmWave) device discovery for relay communication using pseudo-omnidirectional beams. A first user equipment (UE) may transmit a synchronization signal over each pseudo-omnidirectional beam to enable a second UE to discover a presence of the second UE within a range of the first UE. Upon the occurrence of an external event, a base station may either trigger a beam training procedure with the second UE to establish a relay link between the first and second UEs or broadcast a message to all UEs requesting a relay link be established with the first UE. The first and second UEs may then select a directional beam pair link (BPL) for the relay link and establish the relay link to enable information to be relayed between the base station and the first UE via the relay link.

The first UE may select to communicate using the first communication link or the second communication link based on one or more prioritization rules that may involve the priority of the first message and the second message. The first UE may identify a mapping between the priority of the first message and the priority of the second message that may enable a comparison of the priorities of the first message and the second message. The first UE may select to communicate using the communication link of the message associated with the higher priority.

In some systems, a first device and a second device may communicate over a communication link using a set of antenna elements. The first device may identify one or more antenna array reconfiguration trigger conditions and may correspondingly select a first subset of antenna elements for operation. The first device may transmit a message to the second device including an indication of the antenna array reconfiguration at the first device, a request for the second device to modify the second device's antenna array configuration, or both. The second device may receive the message and, based on the indication or the request, may modify its antenna array configuration. For example, the second device may select a second subset of antenna elements based on the selected first subset of antenna elements. The devices may communicate using their modified antenna array configurations.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive configuration information from a base station that indicates a set of resources for the UE to establish sidelink communications with another UE in a wireless network. The UE may transmit a first set of reference signals using a first set of beams to determine a set of neighboring candidate UEs for a sidelink connection. The UE may then transmit a second set of reference signals on a second set of beams to the neighboring candidate UEs, and may select a second UE located in the determined neighboring set using various beam scanning procedures. The UE may identify a transmit beam associated with the second UE, and may establish the sidelink connection using the identified transmit beam.

Abstract: Wireless communications systems and methods related to coordinated beam refinement and coordinated beam failure recovery (BFR) in a wireless communication network are provided. A first wireless communication device communicates, with a second wireless communication device of a group of wireless communication devices, a communication signal using a first beam characteristic. The first wireless communication device receives, from the second wireless communication device, at least one of beam feedback information or a beam change request. The first wireless communication device transmits, to the group of wireless communication devices in response to the at least one of the beam feedback information or the beam change request, a beam configuration indicating a second beam characteristic to be used by the group of wireless communication devices for communicating with the first wireless communication device, the second beam characteristic being different from the first beam characteristic.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide beam determination in beamformed wireless communications. A base station may transmit multiple repetitions of control information for a subsequent scheduled transmission. A user equipment (UE) may receive one of the multiple repetitions, determine the control information, and adjust beamforming parameters for the scheduled transmission. The UE may have a scheduling threshold that corresponds to a time needed for the UE to adjust beamforming parameters for the scheduled transmission, and the UE may identify the beamforming parameters for the scheduled transmission from any one of the multiple repetitions of control information, which may be transmitted using different downlink transmission beams, before or after the scheduling threshold, or combinations thereof.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may include a set of patch antennas in a quasi-linear arrangement along a top linear edge and one or more side linear edges of the UE in addition to a curved part between the two linear edges. For example, a first subset of the patch antennas may be linearly arranged on a first edge along the UE (e.g., the top of the UE), a second subset of the patch antennas may be linearly arranged along a second edge of the UE that is at an angle relative to the first edge (e.g., a side of the UE), and at least one patch antenna may be non-linearly arranged (e.g., quasi-linearly) on a curved line formed between the first subset of the patch antennas and the second subset of the patch antennas.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide efficient beam updates in beamformed communications between a transmitting device and receiving device. The transmitting device and the receiving device may establish a connection using one or more beamformed transmission beams. The devices may periodically perform beam refinement procedures or beam training procedures and may update the transmission beams used for communications based on such procedures. Signaling to indicate the updated transmission beams may be transmitted that indicates one or more of a difference or delta from a prior beamforming parameter, a beam that was used at the receiving device for one or more measurements of a reference signal from the transmitting device, or any combinations thereof.

The UE may also transmit, to the base station, side information different from and in addition to the indication of the value of the channel quality information, and receive, in response to the transmitted indication of the value and the transmitted side information, an indication of resources for the UE to use to communicate on the wireless link.
