    摘要: A formable composite magnetic flux concentrator material is composed of about 65% to 90% ferromagnetic material, such as iron powder, and about 35% to 10% binder, the binder being a mixture of an epoxy and one or more catalysts. The concentrator material is provided in a formable state as a putty-like body which can be worked into any desired shape dictated by the configuration of the induction heating coil used in a particular application. In one form, the density of the concentrator material is increased by application of vibration, compression and vacuum to de-air the material and to reduce voids therein. In another form, the iron powder comprises spherical-shaped particles and non-spherical shaped powders chosen in a ratio to maximize the density of material available.

    摘要: This invention provides a system for providing heating in an alternating magnetic field using lossy heat producing magnetic particles. This invention discloses a system comprising a combination of particles wherein the first particles are lossy heat producing particles, which have a preselected Curie temperature to provide self-regulating heating in the alternating magnetic field, and the second particles are nonlossy particles which have high permeability which are not heat producing particles but which maintain the coupling of the magnetic circuit and maintain the desired magnetic field focus and intensity through the area in which the first lossy heat producing particles are positioned. Thus, in this invention, when the first lossy heating particles approach or are at their Curie temperature and have declining permeability and would otherwise lose the desired coupling with the magnetic circuit, the second nonlossy high permeability particles maintain the coupling of the magnetic circuit as well as the desired intensity of the magnetic field through the first lossy heating particles to provide the desired field strength throughout the heating period. This invention prevents premature loss of heating due to loss of coupling of the magnetic circuit with the lossy heating particles and provide other advantages. This invention also provides magnetic particles coated with an electrically resistive coating, which coated particles exhibit useful properties in the above particle systems.

    摘要: An induction heating furnace is disclosed comprising an induction coil assembly and a ladle having a metallic shell that supports a crucible holding metal to be heated by the furnace. The ladle is readily separated from the induction coil assembly so that the heated metal may be conveniently and reliably moved among operational stations. The induction coil assembly has a preselected length which is less than the length of the shell. The induction coil assembly surrounds, but does not touch the shell and generates an electromagnetic induction field. The induction coil assembly comprises a coil, upper and lower yokes and an intermediate yoke coextensive with the coil. The upper and lower yokes are separated from each other and electromagnetically coupled together by the intermediate yoke. The upper, lower and intermediate yokes each comprise stacked laminates formed of sheets of ferrous material.

    摘要: An apparatus for producing a heat recoverable plastic article such as a tube by deforming the article from a heat-stable configuration to a heat-unstable configuration. The heat-unstable configuration will return to the heat-stable configuration when the article is heated to above the heat recovery temperature. The article is heated such that the article is at a temperature no lower than the heat recovery temperature during the deforming step by lossy particles dispersed in the article or in a tool used in the deforming step. The lossy particles allow auto-regulated heating of the article since the particles cannot be heated beyond their Curie transition temperature when subjected to an alternating magnetic field. These particles are preferably ferrites. Alternatively, the tool can include a braided mesh tubing of a ferromagnetic alloy wire. The article is cooled in the heat-unstable configuration to a temperature below the heat recovery temperature while preventing the article from returning to the heat-stable configuration. The tool can be a mandrel, expandable tube or caterpillar.

    摘要: An apparatus for the inductive cross-field heating of flat material includes a plurality of mutually opposite induction loops being disposed above and below the flat material. At least one pair of induction modules is formed of two induction modules being adjustable independently of one another in their position relative to the flat material. Each induction module has two mutually opposite U-shaped induction loops having geometries and dimensions which are invariable, base legs which can be positioned in such a way that they terminate at least a predeterminable distance in front of one edge of the flat material and within the width of the flat material, and two side legs which can be positioned in such a way that they project at least a predeterminable distance beyond the other edge of the flat material. The induction loops of the two induction modules of a pair of induction modules are open towards oppositely directed sides, with the result that the side legs of only one induction loop project beyond each edge of the flat material.

    摘要: Solenoid coils are provided that produce relatively low irradiation of electromagnetic fields with intense fields internally thereof for purposes of heating a metallic element, preferably a ferromagnetic element having a Curie temperature selected for the purpose for which the coil structure is to be employed, the coil structure in one embodiment comprising two coaxial coils of substantially equal diameter interconnected to produce in response to an alternating current being applied thereto out of phase magnetic fields that do not substantially interfere with one another as a result of the spacing between the coils. In a second embodiment the two coils are located between two additional coils that buck axial fields thereby together with fall off of the fields as the cube of the distance from the main coils provide a structure with low external radiation. The method of forming the first coil structure includes winding a pancake coil in the form of a spiral, rotating out of the plane of the coil the innermost leg of the spiral to provide the desired spacing of the coils, forming the pancake into a cylindrical shape with the cross members of the pancake being laid one over the other to provide cancellation of the fields produced by these members.
