    Abstract: Embodiments of a machine-type communication (MTC) User Equipment (UE) and methods for configuring a MTC UE using an evolved Node B (eNB) are generally described herein. A method for configuring a UE for communication performed by circuitry of an evolved Node B (eNB) may include broadcasting, from the eNB, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission on a licensed band, transmitting, from the eNB to the UE, a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) transmission multiplexed with a machine-type communication (MTC) PBCH (M-PBCH) transmission, the M-PBCH transmission including a MTC master information block (M-MIB) in a MTC region of the licensed band, wherein the MTC region includes a subset of frequencies of the licensed band, and transmitting, from the eNB to the UE, a first data transmission on the MTC region in a downlink.

    Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) and an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and methods for random access are generally described herein. As part of a random access procedure, the UE may transmit a physical random access channel (PRACH) preamble in a first portion of PRACH time and frequency resources and may receive a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) block that includes a random access response (RAR) to the PRACH preamble. The PDSCH block may be based on a random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) associated with the first portion of the PRACH resources. Accordingly, the UE may use the RA-RNTI to determine that the PDSCH block is intended for the UE without usage of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) blocks for the PDSCH block. In some embodiments, the UE may be configured for machine-type communication (MTC).

    Abstract: Techniques for improving observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) positioning are discussed. One example apparatus employable in an eNB comprises a processor, transmitter circuitry, and receiver circuitry. The processor is configured to: generate a set of positioning reference signals (PRSs); and encode the set of PRSs for a multi-antenna transmission. The transmitter circuitry is configured to transmit the set of PRSs via the multi-antenna transmission. The receiver circuitry is configured to receive a set of reference signal time differences (RSTDs) from a user equipment (UE) in response to the set of PRSs. The processor is further configured to estimate a position of the UE based at least in part on the set of RSTDs.

    Abstract: Techniques for observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) positioning based on heterogeneous reference signals (RSs) are discussed. One example apparatus configured to be employed within a user equipment (UE) comprises receiver circuitry, a processor, and transmitter circuitry. The receiver circuitry can receive, from each of a plurality of evolved Node Bs (eNBs), one or more RSs of each of a plurality of distinct types of RSs. The processor can determine, for each of the eNBs, a time of arrival (TOA) of the one or more RSs of each of the plurality of distinct types of RSs; and compute, for each of the eNBs, a reference signal time difference (RSTD) based at least in part on the TOAs of the one or more RSs of each of the plurality of distinct types of RSs. The transmitter circuitry can transmit the RSTD computed for each of the eNBs.

    Abstract: Embodiments of wireless communication devices and methods for device discovery is generally described herein. Some of these embodiments describe an apparatus having processing circuitry arranged to configure a single-tone discovery signal for transmission in a symbol in a transmission opportunity based on an assignment pattern. The assignment pattern may define frequency positions, for a set of transmission opportunities, at which the apparatus shall transmit discovery signals in the corresponding transmission opportunity. The apparatus may have physical layer circuitry arranged to transmit the single-tone discovery signal in the corresponding transmission opportunity. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.
