Abstract: A cube-based projection method includes generating pixels of different square projection faces associated with a cube-based projection of a 360-degree image content of a sphere. Pixels of a first square projection face are generated by utilizing a first mapping function set. Pixels of a second square projection face are generated by utilizing a second mapping function set. The different square projection faces include the first square projection face and the second square projection face. The second mapping function set is not identical to the first mapping function set.

Abstract: A video processing method includes: receiving an omnidirectional image/video content corresponding to a viewing sphere, generating a sequence of projection-based frames according to the omnidirectional image/video content and a viewport-based cube projection layout, and encoding the sequence of projection-based frames to generate a bitstream. Each projection-based frame has a 360-degree image/video content represented by rectangular projection faces packed in the viewport-based cube projection layout. The rectangular projection faces include a first rectangular projection face, a second rectangular projection face, a third rectangular projection face, a fourth rectangular projection face, a fifth rectangular projection face, and a sixth rectangular projection face split into partial rectangular projection faces. The first rectangular projection face corresponds to user's viewport, and is enclosed by a surrounding area composed of the second rectangular projection face, the third rectangular projection face, the fourth rectangular projection face, the fifth rectangular projection face, and the partial rectangular projection faces.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a derived disparity vector (DV) directly from associated depth block for motion vector prediction in three-dimensional video encoding or decoding are disclosed. Input data associated with current motion information of a current texture block of a current texture picture in a current dependent view and a depth block associated with the current texture block are received. The derived DV for the current texture block based on the depth block is then determined and used for inter-view or temporal motion vector prediction (MVP). If the current motion information corresponds to inter-view prediction, the current DV is encoded or decoded using the derived DV as a MVP. If the current motion information corresponds to temporal prediction, the current MV is encoded or decoded using a derived MV of a corresponding texture block in a reference view as the MVP.

Abstract: A sample adaptive offset (SAO) filtering method for a reconstructed projection-based frame includes: obtaining at least one padding pixel in a padding area that acts as an extension of a face boundary of a first projection face, and applying SAO filtering to a block that has at least one pixel included in the first projection face. In the reconstructed projection-based frame, there is image content discontinuity between the face boundary of the first projection face and a face boundary of a second projection face. The at least one padding pixel is involved in the SAO filtering of the block.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying filter to Intra prediction samples are disclosed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a filter is applied to one or more prediction samples of the Initial Intra prediction block to form one or more filtered prediction samples. For example, the filter is applied to the prediction sample in the non-boundary locations of the Initial Intra prediction block. Alternatively, the filter is applied to all prediction samples in the Initial Intra prediction block. The filtered Intra prediction block comprising one or more filtered prediction samples is used as a predictor for Intra prediction encoding or decoding of the current block. The filter corresponds to a FIR (finite impulse response) filter or an IIR (infinite impulse response) filter.

Moreover, the method includes encoding or decoding the current block by predicting the current block based on the filtered neighboring samples and the intra-prediction mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of video encoding or decoding for a video encoding or decoding system applied to multi-face sequences corresponding to a 360-degree virtual reality sequence are disclosed. Then, the current block in the current face is encoded or decoded using a current virtual reference frame derived for the current face to derive an Inter predictor for the current block.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus of processing omnidirectional images are disclosed. According to one method, a current set of omnidirectional images converted from each spherical image in a 360-degree panoramic video sequence using a selected projection format is received, where the selected projection format belongs to a projection format group comprising a cubicface format, and the current set of omnidirectional images with the cubicface format consists of six cubic faces. If the selected projection format corresponds to the cubicface format, one or more mapping syntax elements to map the current set of omnidirectional images into a current cubemap image are signaled. The coded data are then provided in a bitstream including said one or more mapping syntax elements for the current set of omnidirectional images.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for three-dimensional and scalable video coding are disclosed. Embodiments according to the present invention determine a motion information set associated with the video data, wherein at least part of the motion information set is made available or unavailable conditionally depending on the video data type. The video data type may correspond to depth data, texture data, a view associated with the video data in three-dimensional video coding, or a layer associated with the video data in scalable video coding. The motion information set is then provided for coding or decoding of the video data, other video data, or both. At least a flag may be used to indicate whether part of the motion information set is available or unavailable. Alternatively, a coding profile for the video data may be used to determine whether the motion information is available or not based on the video data type.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for direct Simplified Depth Coding (dSDC) to derive prediction value directly for each segment without deriving depth prediction samples or depth prediction subsamples. The dSDC method substantially reduces the computations associated with deriving the prediction samples or subsamples and calculating the average of the prediction samples or subsamples by deriving the prediction value directly based on the reconstructed neighboring depth samples. The direct SDC can be applied to derive the two prediction values, P0 and P1 for the two segments of a depth block coded by SDC depth modelling mode 1 (DMM-1).
