摘要: A conductor assembly and method for constructing an assembly of the type which, when conducting current, generates a magnetic field or which, in the presence of a changing magnetic field, induces a voltage. In one embodiment the method includes providing a first insulative layer having a curved surface along which a conductor segment may be positioned, and forming a channel in the insulative layer, which defines a first conductor path. The channel includes first and second opposing channel surfaces each extending from the surface of the insulative layer into the insulative layer and a third channel surface extending between the first and second channel surfaces. Each of the first and second channel surfaces includes a substantially flat surface portion with the surface portion of the first channel surface parallel with the surface portion of the second channel surface. A first segment of conductor is placed in the channel.

摘要: A system is provided for aligning a railroad signal. The system includes at least one tilt device and at least one directional device to measure the respective tilt and direction of the railroad signal, and at least one controller coupled to the tilt device and the directional device. The controller is switchable between a calibration mode and a monitoring mode. Upon switching to the calibration mode, a correct tilt and correct direction of the railroad signal in a proper alignment is respectively measured and recorded in a memory of the controller. More particularly, upon recording the correct tilt and correct direction, the controller switches into the monitoring mode to determine if one of a measured tilt and a measured direction of the railroad signal exceeds a respective tilt threshold and direction threshold stored in the memory of the controller.

摘要: An antenna for a communications device having configurable elements controlled to modify an antenna impedance and/or an antenna resonant frequency to improve performance of the communications device. The antenna impedance is controlled to substantially match to an output impedance of a power amplifier that supplies the antenna with a signal for transmission. The antenna resonant frequency is controlled to overcome the effects of various operating conditions that can detune the antenna or in response to an operable frequency band.

摘要: A conductor assembly and method for constructing an assembly of the type which, when conducting current, generates a magnetic field or which, in the presence of a changing magnetic field, induces a voltage. In one embodiment the method includes forming a structure comprising layers of material extending along a first aperture path. The structure includes multiple concentric layer surfaces. A channel is formed in each of the layers of the material and along each of the multiple surfaces. Conductive material is positioned in each channel to provide a spiral configuration. The surfaces of multiple ones of the layers are of tubular shape. The layers of material are sequentially positioned one over another and about an axis along which first and second opposing coil end regions are formed. The layers are formed with a region of a first thickness and a shoulder region. The shoulder region is alternately formed in the sequence at one coil end region or at the other coil end region. Each shoulder region has a greater thickness than the first thickness.

摘要: A system (10) for ensuring the quality of lubricating oil in an engine of a locomotive without the need for specialized diagnostic and fluid handling systems on the locomotive. A test portion (28) of lubricating oil is removed from the engine and is analyzed at an oil analysis center (26) to determine an oil quality parameter (32). The oil quality parameter is used as an input to a calculator (34) to determine a quantity of oil (36) that must be replaced by fresh oil during a current maintenance outage in order to ensure that the engine oil quality will remain acceptable throughout a forthcoming operating period. In this manner, a complete change-out of the lubricating oil may be delayed or avoided. The oil replacement decision and quantity is communicated to a service center (18) via a communications link such as the Internet (40) prior to the arrival of the locomotive at the service center. The used oil may be removed from the engine using a portable transfer device and mixed with fuel in a fuel storage tank for subsequent refueling of other locomotives.
